For more info do a Search of the 2000-2005 forum, and you will find a couple of threads (besides those mentioned above) that will shed more light on this.

I did it last year, solely training myself by reading info here at The Club, and was able to do the job correctly in about 45 minutes start-to-finish. Definitely within the ability of a DIY'er to do, and the only cost was the price of a new bulb.

THANK YOU!--irv

late addition-- if you are careful, you can lift the console top up at
the rear and carefully remove the prndl plastic box out, pull the bulb,
and replace the plastic. remember to line up the shifter nub with the
slide on the box. 5 min, you are done. i didnt invent this . a friend
had done it.. hope it saves some time by not removing all the cluster
finish panels.--irv

I ordered the GE Part # 161 from Rockauto and they are waay too big. Was I supposed to get the Wagner Part # 161 Miniature Lamp?

I'm not sure what to tell you. According to Sylvania 161 is the bulb. From looking at pictures it does look big. I'll see what I can find.

I think you are going to have to be my guinea pig. Try a sylvania 74.

I'm not 100%, but I think that the proper bulb number is 37.

Ok, so 37 is about a 1/4 of the size of the 161 then?
