Spark plugs
So I changed my plugs and wires today....all except cylinder #6 on rear bank, that plug was seized in, and I didn't wanna try too hard and bust it off in the head. Does anyone have any tips on how to get a seized plug out (with the limited room to work with) without breaking it off? I should also mention that the hex part on my old plugs are badly rusted, so there is a chance of stripping the plug as well.
I also noticed when replacing the plug wire that cyl#1 connector on that coil pack was corroded. I used a metal brush to clean it off as best as I could, but what would cause just the one to rust like that?

Re: Spark plugs
You can spray some PB blaster down on the plug, try and let it sit and work it's magic. Also if you try to remove the plugs with the engine a little warm, the metal will be expanded somewhat and could release the plug a bit. Also if you tighten bolts just a tad, it will give you wiggle room to rotate them back and forth to work them out.

Re: Spark plugs
I would use a swivel head ratchet with a 6 point deep socket

Re: Spark plugs
Great, thanks for the tips guys. I do have a swivel somewhere, and will give it a try with the engine warm and see if it breaks free.

Tried with engine warm and plug came out. Took a bit of persuading, but she broke loose.
Thanks guys!

Re: Spark plugs
dont forget the spark plugs going in to put some anti seize on them so they will be easier next time around.

Re: Spark plugs
This is odd....I checked my fuel mileage - and this first tank with new plugs and wires I had a 4 mpg drop from the previous. No change in driving habits, if anything a higher percentage of highway driving over city this tank. I know one tank is not enough to come to any solid conclusions, but I record my mileage for every fill-up and this is my worst mileage in over 2 months. I was expecting a slight increase...
New plugs are same as before (Delco iridiums), new wires are Bosch (previous were a mix of Delco and Packard), and I used di-electric grease on both plug and coil boots. Plug gapping was to spec. Car runs fine so I don't suspect a faulty wire. I am confused! Only thing I can think of is the Bosch wires are longer than the Delco/Packards I had on before...in a couple cases quite a bit longer (cyl # 6 for sure). Would that make any difference?

Re: Spark plugs
Our cars do not like Bosch products.
Check and make sure the the O2 sensor wire isn't running by the plug wires, there can be some electrical interference between the two and cause goofy reading for the O2.
What have your ambient temps done around you in the past week? If it got colder like it did around here, your car will use more gas.

Re: Spark plugs
Length of the wire wouldn't matter, but the brand does. For some reason, even the Bosch wires suck on these cars.
I agree to make sure the wires aren't close to/touching the O2 sensor wire.

Re: Spark plugs
Thanks guys.
The outside temp here has been cooler, but not THAT much cooler where I would expect a 4 mpg drop. In a month or two, then yes for sure!
I will definitely check the routing of the back three wires and vicinity to O2 sensor. As for brand of wires, if Bosch is not good, what brand do you suggest?

Beldins are like what $40 for a set? I don't remember.
On a side note, the Beldins for my Tahoe are like $90, F that lol.

Re: Spark plugs
Also iirc, the Series I plug wires fit better length wise and are 0.5mm bigger in diameter? Need someone to chime in for verification on that one, but I think that's correct.

Re: Spark plugs
IIRC the S1 wires are 8mm, versus 7 for the S2's.
