2002 Bonneville SLE Blower Motor question

Post by EXLINE »

My blower has been going out over the past few months. You could give it the ol kick and it would be good to go for awhile but you could hear it making the inevitable noise. My question, after some research i have found 2 gm part numbers and from what I have read it depends on if it is a first gen or second gen with or without cooling tube. Do you guys know which one mine would have? Is there a certain year the put gen 1 and gen 2 in? The part number for the gen 1 is 15-81094 and oe # 19153333 and gen 2 is 15-80511 and oe # 89018521 this is all for AC DELCO parts. Just wanted to know if I am correct and which one to go with. From what I have read it is better off just to pay the extra money the first time and do it right because in the end you will pay that much anyway. Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to get one from Rock Auto. They should have it sorted out, but I believe yours is the 2nd gen. The earlier ones had a different blade and part of the duct built in, the newer ones are just a motor and the traditional squirrel cage fan.

What about Delphi parts. It is about $75 cheaper.

Delphi and AC Delco are generally the same part...

Well I got the blower out and to my surprise it was a Delphi part and I realized mine is the gen 1. 2000-2002 is gen 1 and 2002-2005 is gen 2. I guess they did a mid year swap or something but mine sure was the black gen 1. So I am now waiting until the other one gets here in 2 days and have sent the other one back.

I just ordered a Delphi one tonight. I'm hoping it'll be good quality without the need for 140 bucks.

I hope you got the right one. Mine was the bm00015. I got it from rockauto. The factory one out of mine was a Delphi and I am guessing that came from factory like that.

Yes they are very different. You should be able to look at the bottom of the blower with it installed and see what style it is.

I just thought I would leave the comment relating to the blowers. If ordering of RockAuto, go for the Delphi replacement. It might be 15 bucks more than the cheapest one, but at 45 some dollars shipped it is a quality replacement and it is very quiet. Just put one in my car.

Agreed. As did I. The one i took out of mine was actually a Delphi so it was identical in sound and performance.
