new whistling sc

Post by Speedin Demon77 »

Just did lim and ported sc. Some tune and general maintanance. Anyways runs great but there's an obnoxiously loud whistling. Going to change pcv tomorrow. Any ideas what would cause this? Its really effing loud. ;(

Who ported the SC? THeres something with the silencer ports IIRC....

EDIT: I guess its if you block them off it gets loud. But yes the PCV is a good place to start.

If you fill the silencer ports it SCREAMS when you get on it. Sounds like a boost leak somewhere...

Ford DOHC V6s had a big whistling problem and it was the PCV system.

Who ported your housing?

Sounds like a vac leak, which could also be PCV. Check all your lines and the PCV for the o-rings, and that the valve rattles.

Valve rattles but seemed to be able to blow through both ways? Should be a one way valve right? The sc porting was intense. Very nice work. I've never heard a car with such a loud whistle before tho.

I'm not sure to be honest. They're like $2 at any auto parts store, just get a new one. You have the o-ring on there properly, along with the gasket for the cover, correct?

Ok. Its not the Pcv. Noticed the boost gauge pegs all the way negative during the whistle and it does.fluctuate during the whistling. Any ideas?

Spray some carb clean around too see if there's a vacuum leak.

Did you check the supercharger and LIM for flatness with a straight edge before you put them together?

Lines are good. Seems to new hairline leak on the upper, lim gasket. Trying high torque gasket sealant. If it cures and works by tomorrow were good. Otherwise I'm decking the school plenum. And if I do that I'm porting the lim ;)

I would have tried a new sc gasket. Did you follow the torquing sequence for the charger properly?

Everything is good. Sealant worked. Going to machine it down next chance I get. Love the vacuum sound at idle and really love the way it screams now when you really get on it ;) replacing the radiator Monday then GXP sways. New rear shocks. Modded puck mount. Then I should be good. Big thanks to John at Intense. Great customer service.
