94 SE Died on me...

94 SE Died on me...

I have a 94 SE, last night while I was driving my car suddenly died. I'm unsure if the electronics went out at that point but my steering went stiff and barely got it off the road. Had a buddy come try and boost me but it wouldnt start, it cranks but wont turn over. All my electronics come on, so I'm quite sure I can over rule battery problems. I'm thinking maybe my fuel filter or possibly my fuel pump but really I have no idea. Any help would be appreciated.

When was your crank sensor last changed?
1997 Bonneville SLE...(SilverStreak)...Totaled...1/25/13...Gone but not forgotten.

Could be a crank position sensor, ICM, PCM, fuel pump, fuse...

I'd check for spark, and fuel pressure, and injector pulses.

Spark: remove a plug, put the spark plug wire back on it, hold the threads against something like the engine block (handle it by the plug wire boot), and watch for spark while someone else cranks the engine.

Fuel pressure: Should be over 40 psi with the key turned to on.

Injector pulse: You can put a 194 style bulb (common in interiors and license plate lights) into the injector connector and watch for it to flicker while someone cranks the engine.

Codes would be helpful, but will require an OBD 1.5 scanner/cable to get them. Not easy to find, sometimes. Autozone or other parts places might be able to loan you one.

Thanks guys, I will try what you've suggested as soon as I can. I'm hoping its just the sensor since I don't think its ever been replaced. I'm almost leaning towards the fuel pump or plug as a problem since its been giving me very pulsed and erratic acceleration.

That happened to me in my 88 Toronado a few months back on the side of the highway...it ended up being a crank sensor.

Make sure you get an ACDelco brand sensor unless you plan on doing the same repair a few months later.

I posted before about my Bonne that died as I was driving, tested a few things and determined that it was infact my fuel pump. Called my parts guy to see if he had any in stock (of course de didn't) but he came back with 2 different codes for pumps though I cant remember what he said. Does anyone know which fuel pump the 94 used? or did they use 2 different pumps on the SE model?

(found the codes its either CRC or CAC)

I see references to that being a "harness code". I haven't looked in years, is there a tag on the harness near the pump with the code on it?

The code is on the sender, I haven't dropped the tank yet since I do not really have the time atm. I've been doing some research and I'm thinking I can determine the pump model by my VIN.
