Window auto-down module added for front passenger door

Post by Bugsi »

Tonight I added an auto-down window module to my driver's door wiring to make the front passenger door window go auto-down just like the driver's door window does. It was always annoying to me that only the driver's door window has the auto-down function. The driver's door window does this by means of a dedicated auto-down module wired between the switch button and the motor. It's basically just a matter of wiring to splice another one into the driver's door wiring that operates the passenger front door window.

Some time ago I got an extra auto-down module from someone off this forum, I don't recall whom. Here's what the module looks like:

And here it is wired into the driver's door wiring:

Wiring it up was a matter of tapping power for the autodown unit into the main power input to the window switch module, which is the thick brown wire in the middle. The harness tan wire gets cut and the switch side connects to the autodown module's gray wire, while the passenger door side connects to the module's brown wire (the one that isn't the module's power wire). Finally the autodown module's dark blue wire taps into the harness light blue wire.
I hooked it up and tested it out, and it works perfectly!

Ah, perfection! I read back in my PM list that I got the part from Sirius back in 2008. I don't think there was a write-up about it then, maybe somebody did it and wrote a post saying they did it, which inspired me. Good writeup! Really, having the one-touch down on both windows is really cool. (I keep putting the windows up and down just because it's so cool!)

[Edit: In your writeup you installed it in the passenger door between the passenger's controls and the window motor, so both the driver and passenger's controls operate the auto-down. I put mine in the driver's door between the driver's controls ahead of the passenger's controls, so the auto-down is only triggered by the driver's set of controls. Yours is probably the better arrangement, and now it's going to make me want to undo mine and relocate it between the passenger's controls and the window motor. Grrrrrr.]

and I thought I was the only one that even dreamed of doing this! LOL! If I ever get "froggy" and leap, I'd like to do the other three windows, but with and express up also. - BC
