Keys locked in the trunk

OK, I can't believe I did this, but I locked the keys in the trunk of my car. Its the only set I have and the car is locked. I have a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville. Anyone got any idea as to how to get in there without paying for a replacement key?

Gonna have to pry the top of the door open and get im there with a rod or clothes hanger or something to either hit the button or pull the latch. I did something similar this spring, luckily I have AAA, and the towing guy had it open in no time.

I may be screwed here lol. I cant pry the door open far enough to get anything down there, and even if I could, I dont own a wire hangar apparently lol.

last i heard it costs about 60 bucks to have the towtruck guy do it.

Cops will do it for free. Atleast here in Dekalb and Sycamore, IL, they do.

A year ago I locked the keys in my Camaro. Buddy didnt have metal hangers. So just had to pry the window glass back a bit and them guide him to tell where the slide was. Im surprised that there arent more Firebirds and Camaro broken into.

If you get a plastic wedge in there between the body and the door it should give you a nice gap for a hanger/brake line.

Well I think it's more of a liability issue. I've been told that a lot of police departments were being sued for damages caused to the car from when the police unlocked a car.

Oh I totally get that! The more than a few times I've locked let's in a car since I was 16, the cop was adiment(sp?) about they are not respnsible for damages. I totally agreed because it was my dumb-ass fault for locking them in anyways.

Getting a VIN cut key is probably cheaper than calling a locksmith. Another reason to have 2 sets of keys.

AAA is cheaper in the long run, and with discounts at NAPA, hotels, etc, plus towing and getting your car unlocked, it pretty much pays for itself.

I keep a metal head DC key in my wallet for this reason, I have done it before, just be sure not to ever put a non-chip key in the ignition. Works fine in the doors though. $2 insurance.

I know this doesnt help you now, but as someone else said having another key in their wallet. I have a 3rd key zip tied to the aluminum bracing in my rear bumper. All it takes is a strong twist to break it free. That way I don't have to worry about not having a spare key if I dont have my wallet on me for some reason

That happened to me last fallg.... My neighborhood is really safe and half the times I left the keys in the car (my boring Oldse). Went into downtown (Milwaukee) and of course I needed to lock the car; keys in it.

It's now bar close and trying to find a ride out to the far NW suburbs was not an easy accomplishment.

LOL. I have my valet key secretly hidden in a place on my car now too. Not gonna say where, but it's pretty sneaky.
