After looking at the core support, it can be reused. I looked at what you sent me and looks like a good plan. We shall see how it goes. Doesn't look too complicated, but going to be time consuming. I have also found the header panel (piece behind the headlight) online and available for $60, so I will be putting a new one of those in.

Hopefully next week I will get more done. I will keep this updated as progress is made.

Thanks for all the help and encouragement from all.

Glad to see everyone is okay and that you will be fixing it :)

And spiders do suck. Last month I was driving home on the freeway late at night after work and I saw something on my windshield, thought it was a bug splatter at first but upon further inspection it was a spider crawling on the inside of the window...I was pulled over in about .5 seconds Image

I have never done any painting on cars before, at least not when it mattered what it looked like.

What is the recommendations for painting the fender. It is currently red and looks like they just painted without a primer. I already scrubbed it with some super clean to remove any grease or wax and plan on scuffing up the surface, but is a primer needed? I plan on doing a minimum of 2 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear after.

Depends on weather they used a Gray or Red Primer.... Sometimes they used red with red colors... If it was a cheap paint job they might have scuffed the paint and shot color over it...

I think the real requirement for a car that has paint on it is that the new paint needs something to bite to... and a surface that scuffed will allow the paint to stick...

Now on my 95 Bonneville, I would have to go to metal due to the peel and issues with the primer under the paint... Then I would have to prime before my color coat...

In your case you may be able to get away with just shooting the color coat and then clearing...

* EDIT *

You are referring to the 92 SSEi....

By all rights this fender does not require primer, but being that its red and you are going to paint it white, I would use gray primer on it and then shoot it white....

Use the light gray primer. There is also a dark gray primer which will need extra layers of white to have the correct color.

When I did my fender, 2 color coats, light wet sand, 1 more color coat, 4 clear coats, wait 1 month then wet sand, polish, wax. One fender used 2 cans of color and 3 clear. I used rattle cans, but most people can't tell. I did take a lot of care to get each coat of color even, so you could argue that I used 50 coats of color... There are probably better ways, but it's only temporary.

Can't wait to see some 'afters'!

No insurance claim on this. Only have liability and it was her fault. No citation issued and the truck only had a bent license plate bracket. No one filed a claim against me and I am not going to file one either. No insurance increase and the car can keep a clean title..................although we will have it for a long time.

After having a grandchild, having knee problems and another child having her tonsils removed, we are finally back to putting Gravenge back together. Today we got the replacement panel in and welded. The radiator and trans cooler are in and we fired it up today and it still sounds good. Right now Kathy is working on getting the fans bolts in on the bottom. Tomorrow will be welding more braces in the damaged corner and starting all the cosmetic repairs and replacements. It will have a dented hood and damaged bumper for a little bit, but eventually they will get replaced.

On to today's pictures:

Fender temporarily in place and a little hammering on the hood (and a little persuasion from a 2x4) here is how it is sitting. Nothing is bolted in permanently yet, we were just seeing how the pieces are fitting together. Another week and it should be back on the road.

I did joke with her about changing the name to "Chicken Scraps" because I was using some left over transmission cooler lines from the Chicken on it. All I got was an evil glare.

Gravenge did get a little bit of revenge on her though. She was walking past the car and bumped against the damaged corner and tore her favorite pants and got a scratch on her butt. Gravenge bites back.

Made it out of the garage today under it's own power. Filled the radiator and brought it up to temp. I think I got a good score from the 1/2 off at the JY. Fans, radiator, fender, transmission cooler and a lot of miscellaneous parts for under $100. The best thing is, the radiator doesn't leak and the fans work. The only leak was from the transmission cooler line to the radiator, I forgot to tighten the fitting

Glad to see it going again! I'm guessing the hood damage prevents the fender from being aligned as well?
