Rear air Suspension

Post by msb7619 »

I changed out my rear air suspension on my 01 Bonneville with Gabrielle Hijackers. Everything is fine except for the threads on the top of the shock only allows the nut to go about half way on after everything is torqued. Is this safe? How do I fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.

What shock mounts did you use?

The original ones. The bushings that came with the new set would not work, they would just go through the hole where the originals go through.

Issue solved. Had to do them again and this time I went with Monroe Air Max 822 everything went fine and I was done in 30 minutes. The rod on the top of the Gabiele Hijacker is 3/8" shorter then the oem, hence why the threads would on,y hold half of the nut. I also had to go back to the clip style airline hook-up. The Hijackers have a threaded connector. I had cut the end of the airlines and switched to that with the shock. It was a simple fix, just had to drive around town and spend 30 more dollars, but it was well worth it. I purchased 1/8" compression unions to splice the airlines. All is well now.

I measured 28” at all four wheel wells… Before. 160,000 miles 2002 year. SE
After Monroe 171685 Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly in front; With a 2’ carpenter level for alignment… I was nearly 29.5” in the front and 28 in the rear...
After the New rear Monroe MA822 Max-Air - Air Shock Absorber and some circular driving in both directions…and other anti lock brake testing… Ha!!! I was 28.5 in rear and 29.25 in front…
What are other people finding for measurements at wheel wells????
