Re: Stalling Problem
It doesn't register fuel pressure when I crank it.

The fuel pump is brand new. Replaced it this past weekend. Fuel comes out of the rail telling me there is pressure there.00Beast wrote:Then your fuel pump is dead.

What does the pressure read when you just turn the key to "On", not cranking.

Re: Stalling Problem
x2 - have someone turn the key to run & wait 2 seconds before turning it off. Repeat this 2 or 3 times while you check the pressure.

Yeah - you almost hate to ask but it happens. It's also possible that the gas gauge is getting flakey & showing more gas than is actually in the tank. If there's any doubt add a couple gallons & make sure.sethjamesrimrodt wrote:Sounds stupid but it's easy to do..Mechanical Mike wrote:

Re: Stalling Problem
I thought the same thing. When I had the fuel pump assembly out I made sure to check and see that there was gas in the tank, and there seemed to be plenty of it sloshing around in there.Mechanical Mike wrote:Yeah - you almost hate to ask but it happens. Re: Stalling Problem
Do you hear the pump prime when you turn the key to on? If not, check the fuel pump fuse, and relay. Also, the 2000 SSEi has a 2 speed pump, controlled by the fuel pump control module. That is located by the rear passenger wheel well. You'll have to remove the carpeting on that side of the trunk to see it.

Re: Stalling Problem
Is there a test for the fuel pump control module? Or a way to tell if it specifically is what is wrong with the car?

Re: Stalling Problem
Ok so update on the situation. Car still doesn't run. I have replaced the IAC valve, the TPS, and cleaned the MAF sensor and the throttle body. I have swapped out the coil packs and the ICM. I have installed a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel pressure regulator, and I also changed the crankshaft position sensor. The fuel pump works and shoots fuel out of the top of the pump assembly, but i'm only getting about 10 psi on the fuel rail. I have checked the applicable fuses and none seem blown.
I'm stumped and out of ideas. Can anyone help out? Thanks in advance.

Re: Stalling Problem
Try running power directly to the pump and see what pressure you get.

Re: Stalling Problem
Might sound goofy but worth checking, look at the fuel lines near the fuel filter. If there are three connections there, two of them may be the same size and incorrectly installed. Look for a white tag on the lines near the connector that says Vapor Line or something similar and make sure the mating line also has the vapor line tag. Drove me nuts once. Caused the vapor canister to fill with fuel and car would not start. Also, after you get it running again if you still have low boost, try disconnecting the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and see if boost comes back. Have seen more than a few plugged catalytic converters cause this. It's an easier test than trying to find a backpressure tester with the added bonus of getting to hear that motor sounding like a race car for few seconds. At work I normally drive once around the parking lot to see if power returns. You don't have to completely remove the pipe, just loose enough to give the exhaust someplace to go.

If you don't take the time to do it right, you will make the time to do it over.
