Tire size conflict!!!!
I recently installed 4 continental tires (245/45r17) They are about an inch less in height and about an inch more in width than stock. I was wondering if this will cause damage to the tranny and or other suspension components.

You won't have any problems, other than it looks horrible.
I put 235/45R17's on once... never again

Your speedo will read about 4% on the high side. No significant effect on longevity for the vehicle though

Re: Tire size conflict!!!!
255/50-17 is what looks and drives good on a SSEI. I have over 200k miles with that size tire and I think that is the size that the car should have come with from the factory.

Re: Tire size conflict!!!!
Your speedometer and odometer will be off, and as a result any fuel mileage readings you take will be off, along with your DIC.
Bye Bye:

Re: Tire size conflict!!!!
That is why the 255/50-17 tire is so good, it's the same height as the stock 235/55-17 tires at 27" your DIC, speed-o will be just like the way they were with the stock tires.

Looks identical to haro's car in the above pic. Way too small, no matter who you are.

It's funny but the car takes off faster and handles much better than before. I'll probably change them eventually as soon as I find some decent tires at a good price. Any suggentions would be appreciated.

Shorter sidewall = less flex, but doesnt look right. On a Mustang yes, they look good, those are the stock size.

Re: Tire size conflict!!!!
Also, with the shorter tire you have effectively altered your gear ratio. Your gears are also shorter, resulting in 'better acceleration', but you pay for it with higher revs and reduced fuel economy (and theoretically, lower top speed).
Minimal gain for something that's wrong on every other level. If you want wider than the stock 235/55/17, 255/50/17 is pretty spot on. 245/50/17 is half as bad as your 245/45's, but still borderline too short in my opinion.
