Window regulator

Post by wader2k »

Left Rear Window hadn't been going down since I got this 02 SLE a month ago.

Yesterday I decided to look into it and slammed the door while holding the down switch. It went down!

Then it wouldn't go back up.... 8^)

So I tore the door panel open and pulled out the regulator. Typical problem with the cable having pulled out of the slide.
The cable was also off the pulley and full of kinks. No place local had them so I ordering a new one of ebay for $45 or so.

In the meantime I used cable ties to hold the regulator slide at the top of it's travel to keep the window up.

Anyway, the reason for my post here is this: I had a helluva time getting the regulator back in( or even out for that matter) because of the top mounting stud on the regulator that has to slide into a hole in the door chassis. There are 3 of these mounting studs on the regulator. The top one is simply too long to wedge between the wall of the door while getting the window to sit in the 2 clamps on top of the slide. Is there an easier way to get this assembly back together? I did finally get it back in place after much consternation<grin>.

I will be doing this again when I receive the new regulator. Is it easier to lower the window down into the slide at the bottom of its travel, then position the regulator mounting studs?

Tape the window in the up position. The regulator should be about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down while removing or installing. Then, you can either lower the window into the clamps on the regulator, or raise the regulator up to the window. I find the latter easier.
