tick tick tick

Post by irish91983 »

Ok so I'm going to do my best to explain this. Last year I put my intense cai in and noticed a small tick, I put it off as an exhaust leak. A month or so ago I put headers on and have been dealer with the y pipe leaking. I just replaced all the header gaskets and welded the y pipe. Now the tick is still there. It happens around 30 mph 1200 rpm under light throttle when it shifts to the next gear(when rpm drops). You hear a slight tick then if I add a little more throttle its a really loud tick. What could it be ? Valve tick or still exhaust leak?
Thanks, Keith

Something similar happens to me, and it too became after apparent after installing the FWI. Pulling from about 25 MPH in second gear with about 1/3 throttle makes a pretty steady ticking noise. But it happens then, and ONLY then. Car has to be under load and between 2,500 RPM and 3,200 RPM. I never thought much of it. You can only hear it with the windows down.

That's odd because I recently noticed that same sound coming from my SSEi as well. I installed an Intense FWI around a month or so ago. My car runs great and no codes appear, but you can hear tick tick tick only when the windows are down. I curious to what this is???? I thought it was a small exhaust leak as well.

Could be a supercharger noise. I never noticed it when I had mine with a FWI

Same thing with my SSEi (97 though) Never had a problem with it though I just believed it to be noise from the engine going out through the FWI tube.

Have you tried running without the supercharger belt on? Has your coupler been replaced?

you have the stock air box? did you try installing it and seeing if it goes away? i have a Custom intake i made and i don't notice it on mine... but then again i never listened for it... i will check on my way home. if you have to stock air box you could atleast see if it is intake or exhaust related.

See, mine stays at the same volume more or less. I'd just try to the airbox idea.
