A Couple Of Wierd Smells Coming From My Car...

Post by mjtr21 »

Both of these odors are only noticable when one of the windows are down.

The first odor is a fuel odor. It only happens when I have between a full and 3/4 tank of gas and have the window down while driving. If I am parked still and window down there is nothing. When I'm at about half a tank of gas or below the odor is no longer present at all.

The second odor I am getting is a firecracker/firework kind of smell. I can be driving down the road with the window down and the smell isn't there. But as soon as I step on the pedal (give it more than half throttle) I smell this odor. I notice I can only smell it when the boost gauge is above 0 also.

Can anyone shed some light on these? Thanks!

Hello, the gas smell sounds like a leak from the upper part of the tank weld or the filler pipe where it connects to the tank. Get under and see if you can pinpoint the leak.

The other smell might be exhaust fumes entering the cab. I dont know about 2002 but most earlier w and h body cars rust out in the rear wheel wells where the strut mounts are. Look in the trunk under the carpet and see if there is a hole on the top of the wheel well.......
