Shifting hard

Post by psburtis »

Hey everyone,

So, after changing my trans fluid, my car still has trans problems. It seems to be most noticeable when accelerating from a complete, or near complete, stop and only when i depress my go fast pedal more than 15%. It feels like the engine (or something in the drivetrain) is loose and when I depress the go fast pedal it feels like that something is lifting, then when I take my foot off (the more suddenly the more I feel it) it feels like it's dropping back down. could this be a simple engine or trans mount issue? I'm afraid to accelerate any more because I don't want to do any more damage.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please help. I'd like to keep my car as long as possible. She only has 224k on her, so she's not ready to retire yet

Have you checked the mounts yet?

When was the last time they were replaced?

If not, have a helper with you and put the car into drive and give it a little gas. If the motor is moving up and down a lot then your mounts are bad. Also try it in reverse and see how much movement you're getting.

JUST DON'T GET RUN OVER OR WORSE, STAY TO THE SIDE OF THE CAR WHEN DOING THIS PROCEDURE!

Get under it and take a look at the rear dogbone mount. Look for signs that it is slipping around in its mount. And if you stand in front, looking down at the front trans mount and rock the car fore/aft, you may be able to see the halves of the mount pull away from each other.
