Liquid Glass Sealer

Post by jmal843 »

So I am in the process of figuring out what to do about this leak I am having. Last week my car would leak coolant only when it was at its running temp and when the car started cooling the leak slowed down and then stopped. :dontknow: For a second I thought it was my water pump but after it cooled I reached in and had to play room with it. I'm thinking it's the LIM from the residue spots. Anyways, I was talking to a buddy of mine and he told me I could use liquid glass to hold me over. Has anyone heard of this, or tried this. The write I found looks good, but I would really appreciate you guys/gals opinions on this. I love working on my car but the LIM write up and the finesse of the job may be a bit more than I can handle. I got some estimates around town, in which every person says they need to diagnose it first, but it looks to be around 300-500 depending on what they find. I am on Spring Break from work, perks of working in a school system so feel free to respond with any suggestions. I attached the link of the use of liquid glass as well.

I was intrigued by this warning:
Some vehicles are equipped with an aluminum head, in which case this will not repair your problem. You can call a local repair shop to price a resurfaced head, which will be the cheapest route for you to take with this repair. Many junkyards also carry heads, and you should call to price them as well
I wonder both what the issue is with the aluminum and this product (manifolds are aluminum) and if this was intended for the 3.8 Ford essex crowd to deter them

Lately I have been opposed to the stop leak solutions in a bottle, and insist on just feeding it coolant until it can be fixed.

You are also talking to the guy that has been feeding the Park Avenue coolant for the last few months because I have been too lazy to fix it :poke:

I hear that, but I am planning on taking an 8hr road trip Thurs so I am in between getting it fixed or flushing out the system again and adding the glass liquid. That's a lot of coolant to add on the daily, as long as you don't let the car over heat adding coolant can hold me over>?

This is the kind of thing you do to a beater car to get it to last another few days/weeks/months to tide you over, not something you do to a good car you actually plan on fixing. Just get it repaired right the first time.

Also, the only product I know of called "Liquid Glass" is a paint sealant/wax. Just FWIW...

Have you made sure it's not the coolant elbows?

Yeah I searched through other post today trying to diagnose the problem. The liquid glass was word of mouth and when I went to Advanced my buddy said yeah we have it but no I am not selling it to you to put in your car. :btruestory: He helped me look and we checked the elbows and the heater core. I am starting to notice that when I am at a stand still while the car is at running temp the oil pressure drops.
