hard shift when accelerating

Post by Nerv »

i have a 01 bonneville with over 200k miles, transmission is been shifting hard when accelerating from a complete stop. sometimes when i'm on the highway it feels like it wants to kick off gear. Ill be changing the trans. mount and PCS. any pics in how to change the PCS will help.

I used this website. It was a pretty good help on at least making sure I was doing the right thing. If there was anything else, it was basically common sense. (take off this part, in order to get to this part kind of stuff)

Ok, where do i start. bad news good news. transmission just gave up on me this morning, good thing i was just in my way back home so i did not have to tow it. when finally home checked the trans oil and it was as black as it was when i changed it last week. so i tough for a second about just scrap it, but a second later i regain my composure and decided to change the trans. the good news are that i found the cheapest trans ever for $150 with only 117k miles on it. i went pick it up and now i'm on the task of switching them up. hopefully im done tomorrow.

my question now is, Do i have to reprogram my PCM before i drive it or can i drive it right after installation??

As long as it is the exact same trans. as the one you are replacing, it should work. You might want to have it checked for any reflashes from GM to make sure the software is up to date.

1) What trim of Bonneville are you? (SE, SLE, or SSEi)

2) did you check and make sure the transmission tags matched?

3) at $150 for a trans, I suspect you will be in the same boat you are now in no time......

Well bofore i paid for it i made sure tha it was the one i was looking for. my bonneville is a 01 SE, the 3800 Series II L36
A.T., FWD, w/o supercharger, 2.86 ratio (FQ3). it was cheap becouse i know the people. :wink:even got 3 month warranty . that last code(FQ3) is the one that made sure it was the one i needed.i had to look in the trunk an look for the little sticker with codes.
the old trans did't have the tag on it to compare. the switch of trans took me a while because the cvaxle didn't want to cooperate..
the trans is working fine, new pan, gasket and oil on it now. i havent drove in the highway yet so i dont know how it feels at higher speed.
i did manage to mess up the steering when i was lifting the subframe up in place ,now it's loose but still drivebable and my speedometer is not working.
