GXP question

Post by Tricked-T »

Well the LS has decided it doesn't like its transmission, and wants a new one. I have been thinking about a new car anyway sometime this summer/ fall but it got pushed up. I am looking for another LS (much lower miles and gen 2) a 05-06 STS, and GXP bonnevilles, or maybe a SSEi but I really love the GXP body. Any how. I really want a white GXP if I were to get one. Can you get a white one with the darker interior? Seems most have the tan..

Do you like working on your own stuff and aren't concerned about time needed to do it? Then get a GXP.

Will you be paying someone else to perform work on a GXP? Then DON'T get a GXP.

I would highly recommend a nice SSEi over a GXP if you don't want labor headaches. But you can get a 2005 SLE with all the bodywork of the GXP without the headache of a GXP's size 10 engine in a size 5 dress issue.

Do a search on this, at least once a week someone asks about a GXP and we all answer the same.

:stupid:

I don't know if many came with the dark interior, I would think a few did. Plenty of white 00+ cars had gray interior's...

Ya I work on my own stuff, but the crammed in v8 looks like a pain to work on. To bad they didn't offer a gxp with a 3800. I would take a SSEi or SLE but can't find any around here in decent shape or miles

I think we make the GXP sound a little scary, but it can be. Ours has been a great car, but it can be a real PITA and it can go from great to PITA very quickly. We just want to make sure people know what they're getting into...

I hear you. And I have seen the complaints here about how they can be a PITA and the N* isn't the best of motors reliability wise. Again I love the cosmetics of the GXP that's really what it comes to. I know I need something with better gas milage and easier to work on but I've always loved the GXPS looks.

I thank you guys for your honest opinions. At this point I just need to get the LS fixes and sold doin can really start looking.

I looked for a white GXP with dark interior for a year and never found one. I don't think
they exist. I've still never seen one. I don't care for the tan interior. That's why I
went black. If I had to do it again, I would get a 05 SLE. Same looks, less power,
less coolness, but way less headaches.

If it was cheaper I would just buy the tails, spoiler bumpers, side trim, etc etc and make a 3800 GXP...not that i don't like the non GXP bodies, I just prefer the GXP body, and the sound is nice too.

I don't necessarily know about the reliability issue. I'd say that they're just as reliable as any other GM engine. But they do become more maintenance intense once you cross the 100k - 125k mark than other GM engines. The one thing that is nice about them, everything is modular and very much representative of newer GM engine management technologies. There are no plug wires to worry about, and it is a C-N-P setup.

The real problem is that it's a size 10 engine in a size 5 dress. Figure any book time on a 3.8L car, and double it for this. This is where I think the reliability issue gets confused.
