Need some help with my setup. ADVICE

Post by YoungBonne12 »

alright, so here's the deal. I'm getting an Alpine pdx 1.1000 for $160.. great deal. im pairing them with my rockford P3's, but here's the issue. i am still running off the stock head unit, my current amp is setup with speaker level inputs from my 6x9's (as they receive only bass). i do not believe the pdx has speaker level inputs. only RCA's. what would be a way to do this. would i have to get a new head unit? or is there some easier way to do this. (i plan on getting a cap to assist with voltage also) any help or input would be appreciated. thanks guys :)

look into getting an inline converter, best buy sells them for around 25..you will splice into the rear deck speakers and it will create an RCA output for you to run to your amp. in my setup the RCA converter woks best with only one rca plugged in because those rear speakers that are used for the 'subwoofers' are only 2 ohm. i can post photos and info if you need it but its really self explanatory.

I would just invest into a new headunit

I'm clueless when it comes to head units so I wouldn't want to mess with that, or pay fro an install. I'm alright with my miss and highs for now, having the monsoon system. If I do replace anything it'll be front speakers.
Tyler: thanks for that. I didn't know if there was anyway to convert it to rca's. Is it a simple plug in with your speaker level input to the converter?

yep, and what is nice is you dont really have to cut anything. i used the rear deck speakers because they only recieve the bass signal anyways so why risk cutting into a wire that you dont need to....

I googled this and found it on crutchfeilds site..but it is exactly the same setup that i used for the line output converter (LOC) currently in my car.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142LOC80/S ... etails-tab

There is even info on how to connect the wires...

and to help you out on which wires you need to specifically splice into I bookmarked this page a long time ago so i'll pass it on as well, and for future reference, my 02 has the monsoon system although they *technically* didnt switch from the bose to the monsoon until later in the year...props to us because the monsoon system was superior to the bose

I am by no means an install expert for stereos but I just did one on my 96 ssei and it was way easier than any other I have done before. I bought the deck from craigstlist(jvc) for $85 and the harness from walmart for $8 and the dash kit from car toys for $25. There was no problems what so ever. IF you choose to ever upgrade the head unit you will not have much porblems. I will say this, I did not fork out hte money to keep the steering controls but I have only had the car for a week and the car i had before did not have steering conrols so not a big deal to me but maybe down the road.
