E85 has lost some of its luster for me. A lot of stations have stopped selling it and the subsities have been cut back, so price isn't what it used to be.

Actually I do skim this forum from time to time. Great place for Bonneville specific information.

I give as much information as I can in my threads about the intercooler. My car has been running on my phenolic intercooler for over 1-1/2 years, currently not running because of broken JP single timing chain and bent valves.Larz01 wrote:From what I was told there is fitment issuse with the core, also the phenolic is cheap porous material that makes sealing the core a pain. I'm a little curios about comments! Phenolic is not porous an it's definitely not cheap. Fitment of the core, nipple closest to alternator may need trimmed, I had to trim mine and I would have had to trim WBS's and ZZp's also if I used there's. I had a WBS Intercooler that I waited 6 weeks for (long story with lots of promise ship dates) and it was drop shipped from Zzp's location. Before I started selling phenolic intercoolers ZZp was charging $850 for there phenolic core now they don't sell them. My current price with bolts and shipping is $525 total. I drive my car everyday or did until the timing chain i bought from zzp broke and bent all My valves. Are intercoolers easy to install or seal? No, but don't single out mine. If you read the forums there are problems sealing Zzp and WBS also. I give lots of info upfront and always ship within 2 days.

Re: guess what im getting this weekend.
I got one of sseilmnop's cores for my newest mod. I really like how it looks and fits. I am still waiting for the motor to be finished other wise i would know how well it would fit. But i do have the core, LIM, and gen V mocked up and it looks great. I would post some pics but time is very short for me right now.
Thanks sseilmop for a good looking core, i am sure it will perform as good as it looks.

Re: guess what im getting this weekend.
Everyone has an opinion. This is one reason why forums thrive. I have tuned two vehicles with your core, do they work? Sure. Do all cores perform the same, nope. Are they porous, sure, at least from the two I have seen; unlike machined aluminum zzp plates. Are some cores easier to seal than others, sure, I haven't used any rtv; where others use a whole tube. Are some cores better than others, sure. Do people put cost over performance, or performance over cost? That is open for discussion...sseilmnop wrote:Larz01 wrote:From what I was told there is fitment issuse with the core, also the phenolic is cheap porous material that makes sealing the core a pain. Re: guess what im getting this weekend.
Right, so I picked up Seths entire setup for a lot less than I could piece a system together for. I was really torn because I like sseilmnop's cores, but this price and the timing of him being in MN were just too perfect.
Ill post pics of this beast later today. The plate is 2.5" thick and the core actually protrudes another .5" into the lim. Looks like the VW radiator the old school kits came with. Depending on fitment, I may ditch it for a frozenboost type 101 heat exchanger.
Still looking for fuel rails or logs, and I have to mock up all the details of the pcv and evap systems before any work begins. Also worrying about alternator clearance.

Re: guess what im getting this weekend.

As you can see, the core is pretty big and it seems to me that even though this wasn't marketed for gen v users, it is actually far bigger than the outlet of my gen v. I will be cleaning up some of the machining in the lim as well as gasket matching the runner outlets and smoothing the floor some.

Re: guess what im getting this weekend.
Okay, something I didnt notice before, and didnr seem to slow down the other cars this intercooler has been on: the core sticking down into the lim like that blocks off a good portion of the intake runners.
Soooo.... Im going to have to construct a spacer to put under the core.
Also hoping to find time this week to dismantle the blower and get the parts dipped and ready for finish.
Stay tuned...

Is there enough room under the hood for all of this equipment?

Re: guess what im getting this weekend.
From everything I've gathered the core itself fits with the supercharger only if the sound absorbing stuff attached to the underside of the hood is taken off. Even then it's a squeeze, so I see some cutting of your hood in the future.

2" Intercooler fits with hood blanket removed with a gen 5 and a N*. The throttle bracket rubbed a little before I trimmed it.

Why you wanna ruin my fun? Cant I clock the tb? What about a turndown section between the tb and blower?

Not trying to ruin it, there is a reason I make a 2" Intercooler. Sorry the picture isn't great but you can find 3 major rub marks left middle and right. It is a tight fit. What's your email? I will send full resolution photo.

Makes sense that you make the cores that size. I hope you don't feel slighted at all about my purchace, I had to go with what I could afford. I do appreciate your input here.
I may have to look into a spare hood and get adventurous.
