We got a good deal and referral to a reputable local independent body shop, so in the car went:

None of it (except some of the panel behind that rear wheel) was rusted through, so it's not too major. Suspension bits were picked up yesterday - it's all coming together :D

By the sounds of it, you've got yourself a keeper. I didn't know there were any good body shops around our area that were reasonably priced. You have me wondering about my bonneville's body work.............hmmmmm.......na, too expensive.

Spot repair. The rest of the paint on the car is good enough such that the painted areas will be blended with everything else.

Frank - this place isn't far from your house. It's on Advance Blvd., at Dixie and Steeles. Lawrence Auto Collision. I might correct myself a bit in that Lawrence's rates aren't the cheapest, but based on the quality of the work he does, it's a great value for your money.

I wish I could have taken this car to Peter G, but it's the pesky dealership rates that are inflated. I wish that more money would end up in Peter's pocket, but unsurprisingly the dealer takes a huge cut. Any discounts would then come out of Peter's labour, which wouldn't be fair to him.

edit: I still can't get over how clean this Civic is to start with. The rust is mostly surface, and the seams on the gas door area are helluva lot cleaner than the ones on the GXP!

That looks all too familiar.... Looks pretty solid though. Are you doing anything about that stuff under the hatch area/trunk?

Is the Civic a single stage paint?

Not sure about the stage to be honest, some googling about suggests that it's got a clear coat.

That bit on the back where the rear bumper was isn't rust! Either really caked on dirt (to be cleaned off) or, more likely, rubberized undercoating (to be left alone). The bottom lip of the hatch is immaculate too!

Small update: been busy with school the last few weeks, and finals are coming up. Ah well! I'm going to be living near school this summer, 50 miles from home, and I was worried about not having space to work on the car. I tried fitting the Wagon into the shared vehicle team shop at school (I run a custom vehicle team with... odd... projects), and lo and behold!

I always knew this car was ghetto lowered in the rear, but I pulled the wheels and I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta95AEwSlCc - that spring is WAY too short for this shock. My guess is that they're hatchback coilover sleeves on stock wagon shocks - a definite nono because of different spring perch locations, not to mention a damper that can't keep up with the stiffer/shorter spring. To do it properly, you need either hatch spring/shock or wagon spring/shock combos, but no mixing and matching. Both hatch and wagon have the same ride height, but the wagon has a longer spring on a lower perch, to allow for more travel under heavy loads.

Needless to say I won't be driving it much until the coilovers go in!

I wouldn't worry about the rears so much. Any ground control type coilover setup is like this.

The problem is the short spring on the long shock. I should probably clarify that the back end isn't just bouncy, it feels like the tires leave the ground even on medium bumps. If it was this spring on a hatch shock, I'd be less worried.
