My car is fast!

Post by SCD88GA »

I would just like to share with everyone the fact that my car is freaking fast! How fast, not sure, in the low low 12's somewhere, lol!!! One more thing to take care of before a trip to the dragstrip, cracked windshield, booooo! Hopefully I can find a good used one and save some $$$... Wish me luck, and I will post on here once I have a slip!

Is that a Series 1 Supercharged 3.8 in there?
If so what have you done to it to make it so fast?

If you don't mind my asking as I know many have expressed interest in the past. Would you mind sharing the approximate cost to have the custom cam made?

Mine was made with the same kind of blank that Intense uses (billet), and the grind is a little more aggressive than the Intense Stage 1x cam. A little more lopey at idle... Cost me about $175 total, a buddy did it for me. Whether he will do any more, or if he even has the specs on mine still, I'm not sure??? I'll try getting an exhaust/idle video up soon!

I think you need headers, get rid of those manifolds....how did you time these "low, low 12s"?

Dude, Series 1 L67 manifold are pretty free-flowing already, so if he's ported them, he should have plenty of capacity to handle that motor.
Even so, I'm guessing mid 13 to high 12 range.

How did you shave that much weight off the car?
It must be totally gutted with no A/C, lexan windows and no back seats

I'm with you on this. Seeing your sleeper Grand Am gives me hope for the Series 1 (among a few other cars). I'm a big fan of this car. It helps I remember seeing your car on Google Maps Street View. Looks good, actually. The winter pic in your signature doesn't help. :) I'm rooting for you!

12.8 @ 110 with that low a weight would equate to about 260 hp at the wheels.

That is totally do-able for a S1 L67

My manifolds flow good enough for now, I'm going to have a welder/fabricator buddy of mine make me some headers this summer still. I can't foresee buying some expensive headers, because the rear manifold has to be cut up and welded in order to fit on the car, the outlet angle needs to be changed to be almost straight down! I don't have the luxury of the giant Bonneville engine bay... #-o

I don't have any timeslips with the car yet, but I have ran it on some back roads, *wink wink* timed with an old police radar gun. I'm hitting between 115 and 119 in the measured out 1/4. The car actually hooks pretty good with my cheap Kumho SPT's on the front! I can't wait to get a new windshield in it and a paint job, then finally get it to the track, should be a blast! The best thing about the car is how many people are left scratching their heads!!! :bsnicker: Thanks for the compliments on the car thus far!

I have a full interior, factory glass, AC, heat, spare tire, and a jack! The 3 speed trans helps shave alot of weight off the front end compared to the 4 speed!

3 speed? out of what?

That transmission is behind the motor, I'm impressed it's still holding together...(I admit I know nothing about the TH125 trans)

I like the rims on the car in the siggy...
