Battery Going

My lacrosse has the original Delco battery thats about 6 or so years old. I noticed when starting in cold weather (30 degrees) recently its diming the lights a bit more and sounds like its taking more of a kick to turn the car over. But when its in the mid 50s during the day it turns over no sweat. Sound like the battery is going?

I would say it’s getting weak - over time they loose ability to hold a full charge and deliver less current in cold weather. check the warranty first some of the better ones are 6-7 yrs

also check/clean the terminals. but most likely needs a battery. the side posts on the Delco ones tend to leak a little coolant. I would recommend a Interstate battery if you want a good replacement. it is more $$ then others avalible but should last longer and not leak like other cheaper replacements.

I go with the most Cold Cranking Amps that will fit with the longest warranty I can afford. But we see -25 at times.

Went to auto zone, yep bad battery. They tried to sell me one of their valucraft ones. Said no. Any brand recomended? I can get one from Costco for $79 and a AcDelco for $93 from the dealer.

Is the battery under the back seat on your car? I'm not really that familiar with the LaCrosse. If it's under the hood, I recommend an optima, otherwise Interstate and other Johnson Controls-manufactured batteries are good.

After looking into it for a while, a few days ago I installed an AGM battery made by Deka. They are sold under a number of different retail names. Autozone sells them as the Duralast Ultimate.

They seem to hold a charge for a long time, if left sitting. They emit almost nothing, might be better for under a rear seat, and that also avoids corrosion/rust problems. I like these new AGM batteries alot, but they're more expensive.

The 2k+ bonnevilles have the batteries under the rear seat. They also have a vent tube to vent any gases from the battery. It only may be a little, but it would not be good to allow the gases to build up. If the OP has a vehicle made with the battery mounted under the seat, he will want to make sure the vent system is connected properly.
