Chat about all things Bonneville (and related cars). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.
Hey Gang,
I'm about to go from my 97 SE to an 02 SSEi with 110K - - - can you tell me anything I should watch for or be concerned about - - don't know much about the SC and don't want to inherit a nightmare. Assuming the car shows to be reasonably well kept and maintained, is there a way to look for potential troubles related to the SC? Before they fail are there warning signs like smoke or noise or lack of performance? What's the worst that can happen?
Or should I just "Man-up" and take the plunge?
Thanks - - Tom

DO IT! *Assuming it's been cared for* The L67 is a tough motor to regret buying. Most issues you have will be cosmetic/body related, though some mechanical issues exist. Have the LIM gaskets been done? See this link for more about 00+. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=25362

Thanks a bunch for the links with lots of usefull info - - I'm not too scared of the intake gaskets - - can do some things myself and that's not too expensive. I'm more concerned about potential costs directly related to the supercharger. I'm trying to avoid buying the car and then soon spending considerable money on the SC. Is there a way to tell if it's on it's way out? Just wondering if there's a symptom (noise/vibration/power-loss) that would clue me before I buy the car. The car seems to be priced right, but not if I'm going to have to spend an extra $1000 or so right away. - - - Any clues?

Only thing that will typically go bad on a regular basis will be the coupler, a very cheap part that's fairly simple to replace. Bearings can fail as well, but I'm assuming this one is probably in decent shape. The coupler would make a slight rattling noise at idle. There are others here with more knowledge of the supercharger than I, so I will default to them, lol.
Do you have a link you could post to it?

Sorry I don't have any link to her. I've been looking for a newer Bonnie to replace my aging/ailing 97 SE, and found to my regret that these cars are fast disappearing. I found one at a local used car lot, which is normally the last place in the world I would go.
I'm feeling almost guilty for giving up on my 97 when she only has 135K, but numerous little things are starting to add up, and she's got a few bumps and bruises that are cosmetically causing her to look her age. I'm thinking I should let her go while she's got some dignity left
Then I spotted the 02 SSEi in the used car lot,(Darkgrey/dark grey leather). Now I'm thinking that I should grab the chance to have the SC version while they are still around, and while I'm still young enough to enjoy what I always knew was Pontiac's unsung hero.
Wish me luck - - - I think I'm gonna go for it - - and thanks again - - I'm glad I found this site with a great group of professionals.......

I'd say go for it, the good definitely outweighs the bad in these cars...
