Twilight Sentinel / DRL

Post by jammerx »

Hey is there any easy way to disable these? What keeps the lights on at night, the DRL or the TS? Thanks in advance.

Yes. The auto lights are controlled by that small blue circle thing near the left side of the dash. I disabled mine by putting a small piece of foil on the connector. Makes the car think its light all the time. To disable the DRL, there is a plug that needs to be disconnected in the left hand inner fender. Its behind the PCM. Too dark and rainy here to get pics. But I can probably get some tomorrow unless somebody else has a picture of it readily available.

If you're doing this to put plug and play HID's in, don't...

no just to be able to shut the lights off and drive the car at night. Sounds crazy I know. Really just to have them operate normally without all the extras... Thanks. PCM?

PCM = computer. Its next to the air cleaner on the driver side of the engine bay.

Here is the sensor that controls the auto lights

And this is the connector for the DRL, inside the left fender. It may be hard to see but you can't miss the white resistor that it comes from.

What's the sensor (little domed unit) for in the middle of the dash up by the windshield?
Stone Beige Metalic 98 SSE, Clear Corners, Pretty much stock to this point.

That would be the ambient light sensor that's tied to the electronic climate control.

Jammerx--You might try just removing the sensor from the top of the dash board. You can easily pry it out with the tip of a pocket knife. I had a '97 Cadillac Deville on which the automatic headlights went haywire. Driving under a streetlight would cause it to think it was daytime and the car would revert to DRL mode. Once I pulled the sensor, everything operated normally as a manual system.
