Re: taking out the speed limiter
My friend has an 05 GXP, i know its not an SE but im just saying, he chipped it and took the limiter off and it would do 162 MPH according to a GPS with the tach in the redline and she was still climbing. We hit one bump and decided it was time that he backed out. Wont ever go that fast again. He does track racing at the local circle tracks and he said even the GXP is not meant to go that fast.
I imagine you all think im full of *shoot* on this. If i had a picture of the Gauges during this, i would post it on here.

Hold the phone!
Somebody's 'chipped' their GXP? With the low production volume, nobody has ever been able to do it before. How did he do it?

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Pretty sure the GXP doesn't have a speed limiter to begin with (been to 135 and haven't found it...), and these computers don't use "chips". He most likely got a custom PCM burn, I guess Wester's and HPT support the N* and Bonne.

Re: taking out the speed limiter
I can see a bonnie GXP doing 160 mph no problem..
Also i will say this , my ssei is sketchy at 111 mph. i wouldnt even think about taking an se to that speed.
The front end tends to feel like its "floating" at those speeds..
Thats why i got the gp gxp.

Do they really revoke your license permanently if you are caught over 100MPH down there now?
In Ontario you get your vehicle impounded for a week( you get to pay exorbedent towing AND storage fees) and your license suspended on the spot, until you go to court ( roughly 7 days) and explain why it shouldn't be taken away longer (from 2 years up to 10 years for subsequent conviction) because you were "stunt driving" this all happens at 50 KPH (roughly 31MPH for the Yankees) over the limit. The fine is MINIMUM $2000 up to $10,000. Oh and as a bonus you Could go to prison for UP TO 6 months on top of everything else.
yup really makes it worth it eh?

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Those are pretty excessive punishments I think. I know i stand to take heat on this but when I ride back roads and freeways on my street bike, my opinion is that 100mph is just as safe as 70 and its pretty nice to gets you where you're going pretty quick.
My outlook on high speed may be a little different than most but I do think people have their hands held far too much in this country. Teach people to handle speed rather than put speeders on death row.

I can see that , at 70mph and you wipeout you die , at 100mph and you wipe out you die.

Those bikes are designed for 100+ MPH speeds, is what he means.

So its apples to oranges in this discussion. And over 55 is over 55, whether its 70 or 100. In IL, 20 over the speed limit is big trouble.00Beast wrote:Those bikes are designed for 100+ MPH speeds, is what he means.

ive had my 96 se to 106mph. i will NEVER do that again. i think they had a redline for a reason. What got me to stop..... my belt snapped. kind of sucks going that speed with no belt.

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Lol i was lookin to do the same until i wanted to go home real fast and got a ticket for 105 in a 75 haha it was only a 70 dollar fine and no license revoked so it wasnt that bad....but that is in montana. out here the laws are pretty easy going. i just havent driven over a hundred since then because now every car looks like a cop. and plus when you get pulled over going that fast the cops arent very nice, i had a gun pointed at me haha sooooo scary. great story time.

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Yeah, they can...IIRC, 30mph over the limit is up to a year and a half in jail and a $1500.00 fine. 40 over will get more punishment obviously, off the top of my head I don't recall, but I remember my dad talking about the new law when it went into effect last year, he takes licenses away everyday. Speeding over 30mph over the limit in IL is now a class B misdemeanor.GMC Guy wrote:SSEiMan01 wrote:nos4blood70 wrote: Plus, if you get caught over 100 in IL now, they impound the car and you don't get to drive anymore. Re: taking out the speed limiter
I remember running my car (98 SE) right to the limiter many times and going many miles while going over 100mph. I never felt too uncomfortable and never doubted the car. It actually seemed to run smoother at 100 than it did at 70. Oddly enough since doing all the work on my car I think I've only touched 110+ a handful of times while tuning it.

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Yes, it was a less than ideal comparison. These cars don't have the aero to deal with much over 100 and sportbikes are more or less designed for the track. However, technology is always improving. Aero, suspension and tires are orders of magnitude better than when some commitee decided what the general speed limit would be.
All that said, yeah, the draconian laws on speed are a deterent. I've never gone too deep into triple digits in the ssei. I do have an overwelming curiosity as to its approx top speed, but that'll never happen here.

I was refering to the bike for sure , like i said my ssei was SKETCHY at those speeds , i would not want to go any faster. Then again its just about time for struts on that beastie......

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Lol you want to talk about sketchy? i got my '88 beretta GT (2.8L) up to 132mph when i was in high school on a less then perfect back road... it topped out and wouldnt go any faster.. Then when i had my L67 swapped Lumina Z34 (H rated Firestone tires) i had the needle pinned for a long time and ran out of steem... the front was floaty as hell. simmilar L67 swapped 1st gen W bodies w/ heads up display (95-96 GP's) run out of gear 150-155mph. never again. i was doing a little comparative driving with a 2g eclipse GST, he was about 4-5 cars back when i let out. the craziest part is when you feel it quit pulling and you realize how fast you are moving... then when you let off you hear it revving down and you dont see the needle move for a few seconds.

Re: taking out the speed limiter
Mine is smooth as glass over 100, and does so at a pretty comfortable RPM.. Obviously not something to do everyday, but there's been some roads and situations I've found appropriate.
Never did have the guts to see what it would top out at, but I imagine it'd go far faster than I care to go.
