Idle out of controll.

Post by mark a »

While driving home in a heavy rain I think my car drowned. Started running badly, boost guage stuck just above zero, and transmission started upshifting and downshifting at all the wrong times. When I got home and checked the codes that came up here is what they are. PO101, PO121, P1107. This is what I did. Changed the TPS because when checking the one on the car I kept getting a 5volt reading even at idle. Found the vac line to the MAP was broken repaired that. After clearing the codes I went for a ride. The trans seemed to be shifting better the boost guage was normal again, but the idle would not go down.I got a whole new batch of codes before ending my test drive, here they are. PO123, PO300, PO507, P1121, and C1133,what the ---- is this one? The car is still at a high idle. The trans. still at times doesn't shift properly. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Check and clean your IAC and the passage for air to flow as well, that could cause high idle.

I had a problem similar to this last week with my 03 SSEi and I had just one code, 1133 which was an O2 sensor code. I cleared that code and it instantly went back to normal.

Thanks so much for the replies. I ment that I could not find the one code that began with the C. I did after everything else switch the front O2 sensor with a new one that I had and never used. This seems to have corrected the problem. The only problem left is a still to high idle. This may be because of all the idle adjusting I tried doing after installing the new TPS. It's at about 1100 to1400 RPM's. I moved the IAC screw and the cable connector adj., I'll put them back to where they were and see if that does the trick. Once again thankyou so much for the help.

What do you mean you moved the IAC screw and cable connector adj?

The IAC is a black box screwed to the front side of the throttle body with two torx screws. Remove them (insert the torx bit and tap with a hammer a few times to get them loose... do not force them as they break easy) and look inside at the IAC passages as well as the plunger on the IAC valve itself. Make sure that everything is very clean in there before reinstalling.

There is no idle adjustment on these cars, Whatever you did was a trick of your imagination...

If you adjusted that out it back, that is meant as a throttle stop not as an idle adjustment. Idle adjustments are made by the computer with the IAC which is also not owner adjustable.

I didn't change anything except a new IAC and a new O2. Reset the computer ,looked for more vac. leaks, found none. Still idles at 2000 rpm . ??

Check what the voltage of the TPS is with the throttle closed and wide open.

Make sure the throttle plate is fully closed since you adjusted the throttle stop. The PCM will use the input from the MAF to set the fuel mixture based upn the airflow.
