Gas Pedal Depression

Post by 01BonnnivilleSE »

posted this question on the Pontiac Bonneville Club facebook page, need input please. i have a 2001 se with 193,000 miles on it, still running strong. in fact, strongest running car my family has. only thing i dislike is tht the gas pedal sits in about 2 inches further than the brake pedal, which everyone knows, or should know, tht the two should be just about even.. i can ull the gas pedal up to make it even, just not sure wht i need to do to fix it, i assume it is the spring on the throttle cable to the pedal. not 100% sure, like i said any and all input will be greatly appreciated.. (: love to hear about any mods peole do too, so please get back to me with your thoughts and opinions! thank you.

Hi, my 96 SSEi is exactly the same as you described. The gas pedal is lower than the brake pedal.
My mothers 94 Buick Regal is also the same. All the automatic transmission cars that I have driven have been like this as far as I can remember. Are you sure it isnt designed that way? Maybe a safety feature to depress brake before the accelerator just in case you misplace your foot?

Every car I've driven has had the brake pedal higher, if that helps.

so none of you guys have ever driven a brand new car?? gas and brake pedals are supposed to be even with each other bc it wouldnt be safe to have to pull your foot two inches back to get it to the brake. next time ya guys drive a new car you will get wht im sayin.. someone told me its probly the spring on the throttle cable thts connected to the gas pedal. if anyone has any other suggestions/comments, i'd love to hear em! thanks for the input everyone (:

Have an 04 SE 62500 miles and gas pedal definetly lower than the brake pedal. Checked my 01 Silverado and its the same deal only the brake pedal to accelerator pedal height difference is greater than on the Bonne. This I believe is normal.

Well some cars have it and some don't then, I guess. Does your car go WOT when you push the gas pedal down? If not, then you might have a problem. If so, then you should not worry about it...
Bye Bye:

You asked a question and we answered. I don't see what's so crazy. I thought your initial question was crazy.
