Maybe wheel speed sensor, maybe not...

Just last week, I had my wheels balanced to remediate a shimmy at 65-75mph. It worked. However, a couple of days later, I got the "service stability system", ABS light, and traction light. After reviewing the forum, this seems to the symptom of a bad Wheel Speed Sensor.

I'm just curious/suspicious because this just started happening when I got the wheels balanced. All of those warning lights will come on after I drive about 10-15 miles, but then are off the next time I drive the car (until I hit 10-15 miles again). Based on the codes below that I pulled, I took of the left front wheel and checked the connectors, but nothing was obviously loose. The bracket that holds the connector near the wheel was a little rusty and wiggly, but appeared to be holding the wires correctly.

Am I over-analyzing this? Is it just a coincidence that I started getting the WSS symptoms directly after a wheel balance?

My codes:
C1221 Pontiac Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal = 0
C1225 Pontiac Left Front Excessive Wheel Speed Sensor Variation
C1232 Pontiac Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open or Shorted
C1245 Pontiac Low Tire Pressure Detected (This code is probably left over from the right front tire that I had patched at the same time as the wheel balance)

Sure would go to that sensor and look it over well. Maybe the connector is bad or a wire is broken. Get the wheel off and take a look see.

Check your tire pressures before you do anything else, a soft tire will turn faster then the others and might make the car throw a fault code.

Agreed. They didn't happen to rotate the tires for you while they were at it, did they? Check your tire pressure then reset your DIC and see what happens. If it comes back, then take a closer look at the WSS. Being the resident lazy-a$$, I like to start with easy stuff first.

I haven't had much time to mess with it, but noticed something else. Firstly, the abs/ses/trac warning still does not come on for a while, say 15miles. Something new happened yesterday. While driving slowly through a parkinglot, the 'low traction' light came on and the brake pedal vibrated lightly as if the abs was activating. Again, this was while rolling slowly and applying a little brake. Afterwards, the abs/ses/trac warnings came on.

I wonder if this is some sort of electrical gremlin...

I have a bad speed sensor and the padal vibrates all the time right before the abs traction warning indicator comes on.
At first I get notified every certain amount of miles, then every other time I start the car and eventually it stays on all the time. In my case I need to replace the hub assembly because the speed sensor is integrated with it. Can the Pontiac sensors be repaced separately from the hub?

Your problem is not an electrical gremlin, and its not uncommon at all.

You'll need to get it scanned at the dealer to see what the actual problem is: wheel bearing, steering wheel position sensor, etc...

Same thing happened when my WSS was failing, and when my SWPS was still intermittent (now it's just dead).
