Let's wait until you get the full tune up to see where it is at, and the fuel pressure check as well, but I wonder if the catalytic converter is breathing its lasts breath.

With all new plugs & O2 sensor, it now runs like a 3800 s/c should. Smoothly and with no hesitation under acceleration.
I may have to buy my son a new car so I can keep this one for myself.

What goes on the end of this empty hose? It appears a cone shaped piece of foam, but I am not sure. Found it while swapping out plugs & wires. Image

A piece of foam. Or nothing. I have a box of them, and still haven't replaced mine on either car. That's the vent for the solenoid. Wanna be a purist?

Thanks for the info...now where did I leave that chunk of black packing foam? I can use my pumpkin carving tools and make my own.

Why not? The factory spent .01 on it so it must have some reason to be there. GM spends as little as possible to built these cars each and every day. GM doesn't go throwing foam parts around willy nilly. ;)

You should be able to gain 2 HP if you put a "Type R" sticker on it too.

Forget the foam. There aren't 5 cars on this Forum with it in place.

i would say put the foam, it could be there originally to make sure nothing goes IN, and keeps that thingy working...? but if that foam gets dirty cheapest is to take it away.
sorry i´m from europe-expressions and understanding varies

Like I said, forget the foam. BCS failures are extremely rare, and it makes no difference how long they last with or without the foam. I've had no foam on either of my cars for the last 9 and 6 years respectively. Other cars here have gone even longer.

That foam isn't worth the trouble.
