New to me GXP

Post by 05Bonnie&Clyde »

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and new to the Bonneville Gxp as well. Just wanted to see any exterior mods made to these cars and any DIY maintenance help.

Thanks everyone! Hope I can find something or someone on here to give me ideas of what is available to give it a personalized look. I'm sure there are no real performance mods, so I just want it to look good!

There are no body kits, etc. You can do stuff like tint, customizing badges, clearing the headlights, painting the grilles and trim, etc but no one makes aftermarket body parts aside from OEM replacement.

There's no aftermarket grille, you'd have to paint yours which would look cheesy probably.

The only exhaust that would fit is the Corsa for the Cadillac DTS, which is around $1200, or you could have it modified with mufflers, etc.

No one does aftermarket tuning on these cars.

IMHO, HID's are only effective when used with the proper projector modified. You'd be much better off installing 9012 HIR's than the HID's. The fogs are already a projector design, so they're ok.

Hood would be custom as well.

In that case I'll just restore the headlights and keep it clean and give it to the wife. Thanks everyone!

Do these cars require premium fuel?

IIRC, no? Should say in owners manual or by gas cap.

Thanks, I'm starting to really enjoy this car! Just tinted the windows 20% around. And about to 3M the headlights! Now I'm just waiting in my HIDs. Oh yeah, anyone know how or if the DRLs can be disabled or shut off?

IIRC on the GXP you just pull the relay in the under-hood fuse-box labeled DRL.

The GXP does not need premium (91) in any form. 87 octane Regular gasoline is fine.

Thanks for the info! You've been a huge help! I did the 3M headlight restoration but I still want to buy a new set of headlights, anywhere in perticular I should look for to get a decent deal? I just think new headlights would really make the car look newer!

Dealer will be the only place to get "New" headlights. I think with a good polishing your headlights should look new unless there's actual damage.

It has some chips and what looks like cracks in it. But do you think if I buy the non Gxp headlights and get a light tint on them it will look good? Will they fit?

They will fit but you will lose the smoked look! Depends on how you tint them. And welcome to the club! :)

I would probably take them to a paint shop to smoke them. And thanks for the welcoming!
