Shift Kit
I have a 2003 pontiac bonneville SSEi and I was thinking about getting a shift kit for it. I talked to a few. Of my friends and they said not to get it because the stock tranny won't hold up that long. But on the web everything I read has stated that a shift kit will improve the life of your tranny. So I was just wondering if anyone on here knew anything about the shift kits. And I would like to learn some more about them.

Re: Shift Kit
It will improve the life of the CLUTCHES. It will decrease the life of the hard parts somewhat.
I'll move your topic to the right section.

Re: Shift Kit
A shift kit HELPS your transmission by reducing slippage, which reduces heat and wear. I recommend the Trans-Go shift kit. You can install it in your driveway along with a pan-drop and filter change.

Second the Trans-Go shift kit. It's worth it for extending the life of the transmission.00Beast wrote:A shift kit HELPS your transmission by reducing slippage, which reduces heat and wear. Re: Shift Kit
I would build your own shift kit. It really is not that hard to do yourself, here is what I did.

What do you mean by the hard equipment won't last longer. Won't the whole thing last longer if it would shift faster and easier.

Adds more shock to the parts.aslowick wrote:What do you mean by the hard equipment won't last longer. Won't the whole thing last longer if it would shift faster and easier.

Re: Shift Kit
However, you're reducing the life of the hard parts to somewhere still longer than the life of the clutches, for the most part. So you're basically equalizing the life of the parts. When a trans is torn down all the parts are inspected and replaced as needed, so you'll pro-long the life as a whole, and it might cost a bit more when rebuild time comes, but the cost of ownership per mile is reduced. Hope this makes sense.

Re: Shift Kit
The trans go isn't really hurting the hard part if any at all.... Its going to help improve the life of the trans as its not going to be slipping into the gears... The shifts will be cleaner and more crisp( quicker would be the right word )...
If you used a street strip shift kit then yes you would be putting more wear on the hard parts...
For a car thats driven everyday, the Transgo is the way I would go...
