car won't start

Post by jberd45 »

I went to start my car up, and nothing happens at all. I get a click from the passenger footwell, and the security light blinks. That's it though. Anybody else have this happen? I'm guessing BCM.

The odds of it being your BCM are about ZERO.

You have a VATS issue. Clean the key (pellet) first, try another spare key, clean the contacts with a q-tip inside the switch, and if none of that works, do a search on 'Vats bypass' for your repair guide.

I cleaned the pellet, still nothing. I've been reading through the forum, and a lot of people said the ignition cylinder gets bad. I'm going to get the other key from my friend and try that first.

If the other key doesn't work, don't replace the ignition cylinder. Do the bypass and be done with it for under $1.

I've read up on that as well. Come to think of it, I'd like to put in a remote start someday; you have to bypass the VATS to do that, right?

Yes, or a relay that does the same only in start mode.

I ended up bypassing it with some resistors, and it works great! Thanks for the help.
