car mounts

Post by kemicala »

so ive been looking for a car mount for my phone for navigation uses. i didnt really like the idea of putting one on my windshield because of appearance and how far most mounts would place it making them hard to reach and use while driving. i wanted something close to the dash location and i thought it sure would be nice to be able to place it under the gauge cluster hood location to help with glare as well as look like its a "built in nav unit." long story short i settled on this type of mount on ebay after searching for weeks for the perfect mount.

i can say it is built well and works just as well. it doesnt transfer much, if any vibrations and its just the perfect mount for the location i intended to apply it. i just thought i'd share this if anyone else has been looking for a good mount.

best part is it only cost $3 and some change plus 2 weeks waiting if you buy from china.

Doesn't it cover up your coolant temp gauge and your oil pressure gauge and your battery voltage gauge? That's the one reason I didn't mount mine there.

Does it suction cup attach, or did you use double-sided tape?

My 97SE Bonneville has the column-shifter and no center console, so below the radio there is a pull-out ashtray. I pull it out slightly and my Garmin GPS wedges in-between it and the bottom of the dash console. I have a separate circuit tapped off the fuse box to provide always-on power to my Garmin. It works great, except for glare, which SUCKS. I bet your mounting location is glare-free, but I want to be able to keep an eye on my gauges. I still haven't found a better solution.

it does cover up the battery and oil gauges and i can just barely see the temp. gauge which i think is the most important. i just pray i never have a reason to notice anything with the oil gauge and the battery i dont find that important as long as the car starts. i think i can probably position it in a way to have the oil visible as well. oh, and i suctioned it up but the mount comes with the sticky pad as well.

I would opt for one that mounts on the vent over that only because it would bug me that I couldn't see the guages. I personally went with the windshield mount. Some might say its in the way but it works great for me and hasn't really gotten in the way. I got mine from Amazon for $16 and it came with a windshield mount and a vent mount, I believe the brand is Arkon.

It was a must have for me. I rarely listen to the radio or cd anymore, if its longer than a 5 minute ride I stream Slacker Radio or simular. Plus for when I occasionally use it for navigation
