P0171 problem

Post by driveway Al »

Hey guys, thanks for everyones help in replacing the LIM and UIM gaskets. Car is running great. Took it for inspection today and now it failed for something completely different. A P0171 code came up on their comp. It turns out that I did not notice because my check engine light was burned out. Can anyone tell me what this code means. Thanks.

Hi, P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1

Could be caused by vacuum leak or dirty/bad MAF among other things. Try checking for leaks first on Bank 1. The one with the oil dipstick and filler. Follow the #1 wire from coil to find #1 cylinder and that is bank 1.

There's only one O2 sensor for all six cylinders so the problem can be with either bank.

Check for a vacuum leak around the steel flex tube that runs from the Lower manifold to the EGR.
