Another brake thread

Post by In_da_boondocks »

The Impala is in need of new brakes. I did some research here and see that Napa Ultra Premium rotors and pads are supposed to be good.

Now I'm wondering if anyone knows what the difference is between these two rotors:

Onyx Guard Protectant Prevents Rust & Corrosion On The Rotor's Hat & Vanes & Improves The Vehicle's Appearance.
Enhanced Metallurgy Including Level Eq Sound Reducing Technology w/ Dampening Characteristics Is Targeted For Problematic Noise Applications.

That much I did see. I guess I should have been a little more clear. Where does the $20 price difference come from?

From what I can tell from the notes, the more expensive ones (P/N: UP 86641) says "Important Information:Thru VIN 59143075".

I'm currently running the 2nd set of NAPA ultra premium rotors on my Bonneville. I only got 30,000 miles out of the first set before they warped. They were replaced under warranty. The 2nd set is starting to get a slight warped feeling to them after only 15,000 miles of use. I am not too impressed. The Wagner rotors that were on the car before I got the NAPA ones lasted about 70,000 miles. I am wishing that I would have stuck with Wagners.

Are you torquing the lug nuts the same or just cranking down on them with an impact?

I torque them with a Craftsman torque wrench, standard star pattern, 90 ft lbs.

Should be 100 ft/lbs (FSM Spec), but I don't think that's your problem. I've had great luck with NAPA Ultra Premium parts on our cars, as well as other's I've worked on.

Well, whenever I've had to reinstall the wheel myself, I torque them to 90 ft. lbs. HOWEVER, the shop that rotates the tires for me, well, it's hard to say what they torque them to since they use impact wrenches without using torque sticks.

But back to the original post, you might have good luck with the NAPA rotors, the lifetime warranty is great and they don't look too bad with the painted hub and cooling fin surfaces.
