2000 ssei front wheel hub remove and replacement from h***

Post by scottanddianna »

well the instructions sounded simple enough one 34mm nut three 15mm bolts two 12mm for the bracket, well 4 hours later i got the broken into many parts like race and sensor and bearing metal and in 5 pcs old hub out! wow it was ate up the rust and metal shavings would scare a rat rod racer from the early 30s,I don't know how the wheel rolled!!! any how got 105000 out of the stock one, just cleaned mount and surrounding aluminum with a fine wire brush on a cordless drill and its ready to be put back to what i hope will be true rolling ride. anyone else find the hub bearing in such bad shape??? should i flush the calibers on the front with new fluid as well?
going to do the other side as well, hope it is not broke as well...
still lov the car,cai and 180 stat and new brake shoes go on in the morning as well.

I have done 3 wheel bearings on my car so far and none were broken in half.

Good thing you got it done before you did anymore damage.

At the top of 'your ride:pics and videos' section there is a sticky post on how to post a pic. I would like to see it if you can post it.

I have found that wheel bearings gave me plenty of warning before they would self destruct in the manor you have described. I would hear this Hummmmmmmmm-ing sound. I don't see how your calipers would be "contaminated". HOWEVER, since you have the calipers off the car, I would strongly suggest you inspect the rubber brake lines that connects to your calipers. If they are the original lines it wouldn't hurt to replace them at this time and bleed your brakes.

well just got the 2nd wheel bearing done, took a quick test drive and the ses light that had been on still was and the track control was on and the button did not turn it back on?not a good sign.
so I rechecked the plugs and reset them and noted the ses light went out and the low track and abs are all off and working correctly?? i was under the impression that to reset the ses it required many (40 times noted here) cold starts to remove the warning light?

wild car......and didn't even reset the pcm, these things are well built loved the suspension system and sway bars everything checked out good on that end.

I worked for GM at the moraine plant as a engineer in the paint and body shops for many years and the frame design on this unit is far better than the trail blazers we built!!!
I am encouraged by the learning experience the wheel hub swap was!!!
thanks everybody for the welcome!!!
