pontiac bonneville coil pak resistance test

Post by Mikeblo22 »

I took the advice of the club and tested the coil pak. the reading should be 5.08 for my 97 pontiac bonneville se. I got readings on secondary windings of 6.88 - 7.02 on all three coils. are the coils bad. I didn't disconnect the battery (negative). Would that hinder the reading or do I just need to replace it, or is being off by 1000 ohms alright. really no ignition knowledge. thanks mike.

when they go bad, they will have less resistance as the coil of wire touches before the end, corrosion causing excess resistance is pretty un-common
