Noise ringing sound

Post by Mikeblo22 »

Hello
My car is making a ringing noise around the belts when it is warmed up. I am wondering if it is the harmonic balancer. Any help would be appreciated.

It's more likely an idler. You'll have to isolate it with a stethescope.

Or using your ear on a long handled screwdriver, being careful not to get your head too close to the moving belt.

now it seeems that the noise has not been half as loud as it was that morning where it was piercing. coming from the belt area after I had driven about 20 miles. using a highway. but since then I hear it but it is not so loud. I cant isolate it I have tried. I will wait till it does it again and I will try to analyze the sound and where it is coming from.

Try removing the belts, start the car and check for noise.
