Chevron Fuel (Ethanol)

Post by fun2drive »

I have used Chevron premium fuel up till recently. All the Chevrons in the area have started to add ethanol at 10%. When that happened I saw a decrease in my MPG. So I started to fill up with premium philips or exon.
What I would like to know is peoples thoughts on Ethanol? Good or bad?

Well, I can say in all honesty that I started a subject on this last year(?). I don't believe the subject can be viewed any longer as I just looked for it. I can say that I and several others really beat that horse to death, so to speak. There is still a subject on when gasoline will go to 15% ethanol for '07(?) and newer vehicles.

When gasoline goes to 15% ethonal

Some of the members can get a little "excited" over this as other than contacting your elected representatives, there isn't really much you can do unless you buy av-gas. - BC

Lucky you get the choice. Around me it's all 10% corn juice.

Pretty sure it's government mandated for all gasoline sold in the US to have 10% ethanol.

However, with this year's corn crop, I have a feeling even Ethanol is going to be expensive as hell, considering corn is probably going to go to $10+ per bushel.

same here... everything is 10%.... I could lower my air fuel to 14.2-14.0 to 1 as opposed to 14.7 to 1... But have yet to do so...

I hate to break it to you, but most Idaho gas stations have been pumping 10% since about 2008.

There is Non-Oxygenated fuel sold around here, but it's labeled for Antique vehicles, small engines, etc. No one has ever hassled me for putting it in my car, lol.

We still have some stations here that proudly advertise ethanol free fuel. Those are the ones that I try to use. Now If it comes down to 10 percent in chevron fuel or Philips or exxon with no ethanol which would you use?

The cheapest one.

Additives are no different between the top 5 brands. They just call them different things. Shell used to use an additive that corroded the fuel level senders in some GM vehicles, but they no longer do.

Pump name brand by the cheapest price. It's all the same thing.

Our local cenex even went so far as to put the old "leaded" pump handle on so it won't fit into the filler tube. Told them they won't be getting any of my business anymore. But yes, in Minnesota, non-oxy is becoming more and more available.
