i have an issue where when ever i go to put my volume up my sub amps only will turn off power completley and stay off untill i turn the car off and restart it... and when it turns off it turns off @ 13.8 volts so im very confused..
so far i changed the ground location to another spot of bare metal on the trunk floor.
i changed the remote wire to the amp from the radio
i elimanated the remote from the radio and ran one straight to the battery
i eleminated the x-over and ran the amp straight to the radio.
i eleminated the radio and plugged my laptop into the x-over for the signal to the amp
and after all of this my amp still shuts off....
but
when i eliminated the x-over and the head unit and plugged my laptop straight into the amp with some audio jacks i was able to turn the volume all the way up and it never shut off but it sounded only as half as loud as it does with the x-over and radio .
so when i disconnected the laptop and put everything back normal it still shuts off and a lil more then half volume..
also my head unit will sometimes fastfoward or skip the song playing on the cd by itself and sometimes the headunit will rarely power off by itself also as if someone pressed the power button to turn it off then i have to turn it back on again..
can any of you audio heads please help me on this one...its been puzzling me for 2 weeks now.. im really getting very fustrated...
oh and i even changed the amp with 3 different identical amps and the same problem still persist so i know its not my amps...
and my voice amps stay on at the higest of volumes. so im really confused...
my sub amp keeps turning off power wise...

I ahd a similar problem, it turned out that my sub was partially blown. If you have any friends with a sub hook their's up and see if your amp still cuts off.
Night Hawk, The 4 door coupe

2 12" Pioneer Premiers in a vented box $350.00
2200 watt comp mono amp $200.00
7 inch Power Akoustic touchscreen 400.00
Setting off countless car alarms and making my passengers ears bleed... PRICELESS
Bugsi " then you could achieve that with fewer subs and still have (some) trunk space left over to carry groceries/body parts/etc"

What HU are you running ?
If its aftermarket HU set your gain on your amp to match the ouput voltage of your HU.
Example:
2.5 volt output on the HU, then your gain should be set to the same 2.5 volts.
Also check how you have your subs wired this is the number one reason that amps go into protection, dropping the restance to low via wiring will do this.
Example:
Bridging the channels of an Amp but showing it to low a restance like 2 Ohms instead of 4 Ohms (lowest stable).

I agree with Dutch......If you bridge at low ohms you could be causing the amp to go into protection mode.
Also, what kind of power line are you running? If you are running a large amp without large power wire then you could have a similar effect.
As for the head unit.....is it running off the same power/ground as the amp?

Re: my sub amp keeps turning off power wise...
problem fixed.......... it was a stripped negative battery terminal that allowed the negative screw to come loose when the bass hit and loose ground connection........... thanks all
