Stereo Issues!
I'm replacing the factory stereo in my 04 SE cuz the original quit playing cd's and numerous lights are burnt out on it. Now I hooked up the new stereo without any issues
. But when I turned the car on I have NOTHING! All the wires are hooked up correctly (kinda hard to screw that up) using a harness I had purchased. The display lights up when I push the display button and will try to eject a cd. But I cannot turn the the unit on to see if everything else works. Is there some special thing I need to get the unit to run properly? I really don't want to keep or repair the factory head.

Re: Stereo Issues!
I've heard the newer cars with the dock-n-lock system are more challenging for installing aftermarket radios, but I don't have any firsthand experience with any car newer than 1998.
That said, the first thing that comes to mind is whether both of the power leads are properly connected. Most car radios these days have two. One that is constant to keep power to the clock and one that goes through the ignition switch, which actually powers the radio, CD player, and amplifier functions. It sounds like you may not have the switched lead properly connected. Most aftermarket radios have inline fuses on the power leads. Have you checked the fuse holders to make sure the fuses are in place and not blown? For that matter, check the car's fuse block to make sure its radio fuse isn't blown.
Of course the other possibility is that the replacement head unit is defective. Do you have the means to bench test it out of the car to make sure it works properly? If not, it might be worthwhile to return it and get another one. If the replacement unit malfunctions the same way, the problem is somewhere in the car.

Re: Stereo Issues!
Hooking it up directly to the battery will work to check the radio out. Just hook up the ground, battery and ignition wires. Then if you can run through everything OK you know its the wiring harness or the way you hooked it up. If not, obviously the radio.

Re: Stereo Issues!
thanks for the input on this issue. I will try checking the leads again. The harness adapter has to constant leads but the radio only has one. Also there are more ground wires too. I tried initially hooking up both the constants to the one constant hot wire and all the grounds together to make sure that there wasn't any kind of problems. Then I disconnected them and just tried the single wire connection. I will check the fuse in the new HU. The cars fuse is ok cuz i put the factory back in and no issues. I just want a cd player...lol! I wonder if I just go to the junk yard and get another factory if it would work fine without computer issues? I was thinking about just taking the HU back and getting a big fancy HU with the touchscreens...lol. Its my wifes car so I want her to have a good system in it. Might just take it to Best Buy and have them hook the new system.

Re: Stereo Issues!
ok sounds like you just need to hook it up correctly. On the harness it will say 12 volt + constant usally ( orange , or Yellow ) . this is the 12 volt constant from your car . Find the only wire on you HU that says 12 volt + Constant . Again probaly (Orange , yellow , etc ) That is one connection . next is the ignition 12 volt + this is the 12 volts that olny comes on when you turn the ignition to the ON postion .
On the harness look for a wire that says Ignition 12 volt + usally ( Red wire ) . this is the wire that only supplies 12 volts + to the HU to complete the Circuit . plus the grounds - .
so you need a constant , ignition , and grounds to work .
you said "The harness adapter has to constant leads but the radio only has one. Also there are more ground wires too."
this is because its not two constats read above one is labeled constant and other is ignition . hope this helps

Re: Stereo Issues!
hi there sorry so late getting back on this subject here. There is 2 yellow wires and 1 red wire coming of the harness adapter. The adapter and the HU have consistent wires to run together. The wires are not labeled at all either. I will post a pic of what I'm talking about here in a bit.

As you can see that there are the 2 yellow and the 1 red wire this pic is off the harness adapter.

Re: Stereo Issues!
You likely have the non-amplified system in the SE. You can tell because there are 6 speakers and the monsoon system has 8. If you bought a universal plug that fits to the dock and lock connector in the back of the original radio, then you need to know which leads to connect to what on the radio.
from Right to Left, the top row is B1 to B16, the bottom row is A1 to A16
A1 and A2 - Data Bus - leave disconnected
A3 to A6 do not use
A7 and A8 are for the onstar. If you have onstar let me know, it will not work unless you buy a Metra GMOS-05 adaptor. I have a used one for a great price
A9 aux input common
A10 aux input left - these allow use of an aux input jack if your HU does not have one
A11 aux input right
A12 LR speaker (+) connect to speaker level outputs on the back of the radio - normally not the ones with the RCA plugs
A13 left rear speaker (-)
A14 RF speaker (-)
A15 RF speaker (+)
A16 Ground
B1, B2 battery positive (controlled by retained accessory power) - connect to power lead on radio
B3 - antenna enable - connect to power antenna lead on radio (or remote enable lead if you are not adding an amp.)
B4 - Backlight Lamps Control - connect to radio illumination
B5 Ground
B6 - B11 not used
B12 LF speaker (+)
B13 LF speaker (-)
B14 RR speaker (-)
B15 RR speaker (+)
B16 ground - connect to radio ground wire
