Is this the speed sensor....

Post by lou »

And why does the whole hub need to be replaced when you can but the sensor by itself? I read that it`s non servicable.

Theyve come down in price.

Id get a Timken bearing from RockAuto, same price. Better IMO.
Bonneville Club discount will cover shipping too.

I have a friend at the junk yard. If there is one in there then I`ll get and it won`t cost me anything. Otherwise I found this...

I plan on getting rid of the car in a few months but I DON`T want to cheap out especialy if it doesn`t sell or I change my mind.

Do NOT get a used Hub/bearing assembly. That's like buying worn-out wipers.

I've sold many used wheel bearings, never heard any complaints. If he can get one for free, I see no reason not to go that route.

All you see in that picture is the wiring and the connector. The sensor itself is an electromagnet and a reluctor wheel which the magnet counts, telling the speed, which are sealed inside of the bearing.

IMO w/ a used hub from a JY you have no idea what you're getting. It could last 35,000 miles or it could last a week. A new bearing comes with a warranty and you know how many miles are on it (Precisely 0). Do it once and make it last.

Also, if you do go used, you'll need a wheel hub from an 01+, IIRC. If it has a metal clip to attach the connector to the bracket, you cannot use it. You need the plastic clip. Ensure that the clip is fully seated and attached, otherwise you'll get to do this all again when the wires pull out of the connector, like I got to...

I`m NOT getting a used one even though it`s free. I`m trying not to put too much money into the car because I know I`ll be getting rid of it in a few months. I bought it a few months ago because we needed a car but recently I heard that my wife REALY don`t like it.

She drove small cars all her life while I drove big cars. She likes the comfort of the Bonnie but doesn`t like the big car. Also she misses her old car, she wants a 2dr Focus. I kinda don`t blame her, she doesn`t need a 4dr and she likes to drive alot. If anybody has a 2dr Fucus :P and wants a nice Bonnie.....

I was told that the connector there is for the ABS system.

Yes, that's the WSS (wheel speed sensor) used for ABS and traction control. It's built into the hub/bearing assembly. The proper term for it is wheel speed sensor, and it's used by other systems.

Lou, we try to discourage splitting your information on the same problem between two topics for this very reason. In the future, please continue in your original topic so we can see all the troubleshooting steps as well.

I think bill meant you should have just asked your original post in the thread you put the link up for since tghey are both your topics and pertain to the same topic.
