Answering a 4T65 question via PM

Enslow, this one's for you! Your PM's are turned off from receiving, so here's my response:

I remember you changed your front transaxle mount, but left the rear one because too much stuff was in the way. I haven't looked at clearance yet, but I'm planning to replace the rack on the 97. Would you say there is enough clearance to change the rear mount with the rack removed?

BTW, my 99 is doing exactly what yours was doing now. The engine deflection is less than the 97 which has a lot of deflection now. Hopefully new springs and spacers in the accumlator will correct it. The clunking is so bad I have to ease up on the gas to get moving.

Answering your question:

Yes, there should be more than enough clearance with the rack removed. The FSM's for my 1999 say to loosen the rack to get at the mount, IIRC.

For your second question, look at the TransGo shift kit. It made a nice difference for my transmission.

I'm thinking I have a bum knock sensor that's causing a lot of issues. It's the second to last thing I haven't replaced yet that could be causing my issues.

I've got the Transgo shift kit ready to install this summer. I really don't feel like pulling axles and dropping engine cradles just to install the valve body portion of the kit. Besides, it'll be more important to do my UIM and LIM.

Isn't the Trans-Go for the 4T60E a whole different animal than a 4T65E?

My 99 will get the shift kit because it has the 4T65e. The 97 has no transaxle issues at this time.

I'm tempted to have a go at replacing that mount without removing the rack now that the weather's warmer and a 13 and 15mm ratcheting wrench happened to come into my toolbox. I've heard it's doable with the rack on the car with a ratcheting wrench. There's only 1 way to find out...

I know it's a 99 you're talking about, but according to the 97 FSM it's not necessary to remove the steering gear.

For the 97 Lesabre:
1) support vehicle
2) Support transaxle with jackstand.
3) Remove steering box assembly to frame bolts.
4) Remove frame to mount nuts.
5) Remove mount to transaxle bolts.
6) Remove mount.

It's the same instruction set for the 4T60e and 4T65e. However, I haven't seen it like you have, and the 99 could be different.

Correct, loosen the rack, don't remove it. Same thing as what Dave said.
