Passenger side wiper not touching windshield. FIXED

Post by county_line02 »

My passenger side wiper doesn't come in contact with the windshield at all. It has a bow along the wiper blade arm and the ends are just about touching the glass. I took a arm off a same year Bonneville from the junkyard and it does the same thing. The arm itself doesn't seem to be very easy to change at, so I haven't tried replacing it with a new arm yet.

Is there a solution to fix the existing arm? I've tried bending and pushing but nothing seems to help

is there much tension when you lift the arm away from the windshield? mite be a broken tension spring..

Chris - if the wiper arm has been removed and replaced, and it is the same design as the '92, could it be the wiper arm head is not all the way down on the wiper shaft? - BC

I put a new wiper arm on. It is now nice and tight to the window.

When the wipers are at rest, are they supposed to be down on the stops below the windshield molding? Mine want to go down but they are getting caught on the lower molding of the windshield and not making it over it. They have actually been like this since I bought the car.

It's the wiper motor transmission. It's sloppy. You have to remove the arms, then get the transmission out. There are bushings that need to be changed and greased. Very common on Jeep Cherokees. They are made of nylon. There found in the help section of auto part stores. Or you can buy an entire transmission for alot more money.

Found my trouble. The wiper arm latch was worn out and would lock onto the gear. Bought a new one and all is good.
