Dont think I've ever seen a brake rotor snapped in half like that before. Like Will said, that curb just didnt give an inch.

Glad its worked out for you money wise, but seeing the car get cracked after all that work is just plain sad.

Since the adjuster already looked at it, I figured I would start fixing it up so it was at least a roller. Put a new control arm up front and put the CV joint back togher, and a new wheel bearing and rotor in the rear. Put on some different wheels since 3 of the 4 tires were damaged. Actually runs and drives now, other than being completely out of alignment. I just needed it good enough to be able to drive down to the shop.

Initial numbers just came in. $6279 for the car, plus $300 for loss of vehicle, $6579 total. I told him about how I just installed a new engine, and that I have receipts. He said to send the receipts and he will adjust the amount.

However the part that I'm not liking is that Horace-Mann doesn't really do the buy-back option if there is frame damage. He said I would have to talk to a manager. I hope this doesn't turn into a battle. I really don't want to have to get it at auction.

You've put less than $2k into it i'm assuming? You're better off than if you would've sold it! I wouldn't fight tooth and nail over recovering it, some people just wont sell them.

Well it looks like its turning into a battle. I heard back from him about the engine replacement. He increased the value by $205. He sent me a PDF of the file. I found a ton of stuff in the description that doesn't match this car at all. I called the adjuster and asked him about it. He said he marked everything as excellent. He said Horace-Mann has a tendency to make stuff up. I have been in contact with the representative several times now. Everytime I complain, he ups the price more. I'm currently at $6962 total. I just finished sending him this link to look at: http://andrewsuderman.com/00ssei5.html and I also sent him this, for areas to look into:

That is the biggest load of *shoot* I've ever seen. They're just trying to ding you on everything. Anyone who looks at those pictures knows that the interior was haro quality mint, the engine was sparkling and the paint was in great shape. I would be bitching up a storm.

Once you finish up with these guys, I would say it's time to start looking around for a new insurance company. Just my two cents though.

This is not my insurance, its the guy that ran into me. I have Progressive, this guy had Horace Mann.

This is part of the last email from him:
Those are just examples, it was not reported that your car was missing emblems or had mismatched wheels etc. I feel the ratings applied to your vehicle are appropriate.
From me to him:
Can you explain why the report shows all those things then?
The adjuster said I should expect "minor" on everything. He said even most new vehicles have something wrong with them, marking them as "minor". I think the price looks fine. $6900 is right between the $6000 private part and $7500 retail value. I was just concerned that the description wasn't matching the actual car.

Ok I see, didn't catch that part about his insurance company. Sorry for the confusion. Sounds like you'll make out ok on this one though.

Turns out I was looking at the wrong part of the report. Here is the actual description.

I'm happy with this. It seems that $6962 will be the total payout. I'll know on Tuesday if the buy-back is an option.

Ok, that definitely makes a LOT more sense than the last report.

It's amazing that you're pocketing nearly $7k for a 11 year old car though! Would definitely be nice if you can still get the buy-back.

I can now say that I am glad I gave you that extra set of china rotors that I had sitting in my garage when I was up there. I knew you would use them on a flip, but not in this kind of situation.

Basically the first thing you showed was their definitions of what would constitute those levels of damage. That makes sense.

Well the final word is in. No buy back option. Has to do something with liability, and there are no ways around it. It will be going to a CoPart auction, and I will have a chance to bid on it. Chances are, I will be able to get it back that way, but I will pay a pretty penny.

I'll be mailing in the title, they will mail me a check, and then come pick up the car.
