Rotted gas cap and potential complete paint job.

My car has a humongous rot hole below the gas cap, and weekly I can watch it slowly deteriorate further and further down the fender. Tomorrow I may take a pic of it so all can see. Now I read on hear that some people have had it fixed, and I have a friend that owns a body shop and some of the work I get to do. Being that thats the case, how much would it cost to have it done at regular price?

And during the process I'll prob have the whole car painted cause its getting pretty shoddy in a few places, and I know that a paint job will cost.

Idk, but it's something you need to get fixed soon. It would probably be a few hundred.

I understand that the whole area around the gas cap may need to be cut out and replaced, and from one of the posts on the website there was a pic of the culprit that causes the rust. So what was done with that black material around the filler tube? Was it ripped out and replaced with a better suited material or was nothing put in place?

If it were my car I'd skip the black junk and run a drain from the lowest point in that area to underneath the car somewhere. Panel adhesive it in place with waterproof panel adhesive that has a slight amount of give like Lord Fusor 51B (IIRC). Then it's waterproof and won't ripple the sheetmetal like welding can.
