Andrew, awesome flip as always. So what are you going to do then SSEi's run dry?

This entire post gives excellent visuals of what an ideal motor should look like. Nice job.
1995 Jeep Cherokee Country- 200,XXX miles and running strong. 4.0L paired with a 5 speed manual. 4.5" long arm lift with 32" tires and regeared to make up for power. Best of all, shes a fire engine red!

are u gonna replace the knob inside the trunk button? what's PDR (floor)? and do you do your own wheel alignments upon completion of the rebuilt cars?

PDR = Paintless Dent Repair.

Not sure what you mean by the knob inside the trunk button. Andrew does not do his own wheel alignments, he doesn't have any of the equipment to do that.

Put the engine back together today after getting all my gaskets in.

So after all that, I'm not entirely sold on this engine. When I went to turn over the engine to put in the flexplate to TC bolts, the engine wouldn't budge. I used a screwdriver on the flexplate to slowly inch it along, and then used a breaker bar to rotate it further. It almost seemed like water had gotten in the cylinders and froze up the pistons. Once I did one full revolution, it rotated just fine. After everything was buttoned up, I disconnected the ICM and cranked it over a few times to prime the oil pump. I reconnected the ICM and fired it up again. The engine ran just fine, but I noticed that the oil pressure was at 0. I shut the engine off immediately and checked for leaks or anything out of the ordinary. Nothing. I fired it up again, and this time I had 40psi. I watched it while it was running, and all of a sudden the pressure dropped to 0 again. This whole time, the engine sounds fine, and doesn't change in tone at all. If the engine was really running at 0 oil pressure, it would be knocking all over the place, its not. I killed it and started it again... pressure seems to consistently stay at 40psi, but drops as low as 30psi! I know its common for these sensors to fail and read 120psi, but this one is doing the opposite. I gave up on it for tonight, and tomorrow I'll throw in a new sensor.

Image

If indeed the engine does only have 30-40psi, the junkyard will be hearing from me!

I've noticed my pressure gauge dip below 40 idling at a stoplight and then shoot back up as soon as I take my foot off the brake...electrical?

Mine didn't start doing that until it had close to 200K miles on it. -BC

That's not an electrical issue....or any issue for that matter. Extremely common with every engine. The oil pressure will naturally come down when it's at idle.

For it to bounce around like Andrew described is not right.

Install a new sender...

They can also fail low...

If the engine was really dropping to 0, sooner or later you would hear the lifters chatter like a Mo Fo... I think the sender may be having issues... And I hope I am right on this too...

**huge sigh of relief!!**

I bought a mechanical gauge this morning for $20 and threw it on. My fears were instantly relieved when I saw this.
Image

I installed a new sender and now the gauge looks like this :bwoohoo:
Image

After I had it running, I noticed there was a leak running down the side of the engine by the trans. It looked like coolant but I didn't see any leaks. After smelling it, I was able to determine it was fuel, and the #3 injector was leaking at the rail. Looked like the weld gave out. Put in a different fuel rail and all is well. Runs great.

PDR guy showed up this afternoon and did his thing on the door and fender. Looks mint now. Having the hood painted is next. The wheels should be here soon.

Glad to hear the motor was fine and there was no real oil pressure problems. Confirms my thought of wanting to use a mechanical gauge, in conjunction with the dash one at least for me. I know its kind of redundant, but at least I know for sure what is going on in there. Not really something you can do with your flip cars though. Great pics as always.
