Paintless dent removal

Post by laxmangl »

I know there is quite a wealth of info on this forum and was wondering if anyone here does paintless dent removal.

I have been getting into detailing pretty deeply and after seeing how much people charge for removing a few dings I want to find out how to get in on the action.

If anyone here does it I have a few questions:
How did you get started?
Where did you get your tools?
What brand? Which tools?

IMO, you should get some schooling in the trade before throwing yourself into it. I was having a conversation with the PDR guy that I use and he said that most of the guys out there doing it are spoiling the craft for the ones that are truly skilled in it.

My buddy does it, pulls in bank. Goes to Toronto a lot and then chases hail with buddies. Mostly works on fleets/rental companies/BIG dealerships.

He started with these guys...

EDIT:: He was getting jerked around by them, he wanted to make more, etc etc, doesnt work for them anymore. Just FYI

I would really like to take classes that I have seen offered, or something of the like. I don't just want to buy a bunch of tools and start doing it. I was just wondering if anyone here does it or has taken any classes to get some tips of how to start.

The biggest downside so far is that the ones that advertise schooling online charge a few grand for a few week course that is a few hundred miles away. Not happening.

Perhaps you should start by checking into community colleges in your area to see which ones have auto body programs. Perhaps one of them has a PDR course you could audit.

I've even found traditional bodywork methods somewhat enjoyable the few times I've tried it. There's just something sort of zen about wet sanding.

Didn't even think about that, there is a tech school with a body shop I took classes at when I was in high school, I'll check into that.

Thanks.
