Tire Suggestions ( 235/55/17)

Post by 93 SSE 4 ME »

My rims will be here Tuesday (http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =29&t=2157), and I'm looking at possibly buying a new set for them rather than taking my RS-As of the argent 5 spokes. Tire Rack has a great price on Continental ContiProContacts, but I've never had any experience with Continental tires. Any ifo on these or any other suggestions on tires?

MadMike sent me some pretty worn out TripleTreds on my wheels when I bought them from him. Even though they are well worn, they are still my favorite tires I've ever had!

triple treads are great tires... expensive but good... the comfy tread i prefer... (both are the assurance brand)

falkin 912 are good a tire..

Michelin pilots are killer tires but VERY expensive...

um....the list can go on...

also tires that came as oem are not the same as those purchased aftermarket.. ie.. continental
original tires suck.. the quality of the rubber is diff then then the same tire you buy at a tire store..
oem continentals you are lucky to get 30k outa them... the same model you buy form your local tire store
will last you about 60k....

one other point to make... you get what you pay for...
2 wheels and 2 pedals... much cheaper that way...

No real suggestions here...

But when you have a 200-260 Wear rating.... Yeah they are going to suck in terms of durability, But the soft compound will hold the road..

I like tires in the 400 wear rated range... You get a little bit of both worlds out of them..

On the Van I may get a set of HTR T4's, Not a performance tire, but a Good Touring tire with a decently stiff sidewall... But it has a 560 wear rating iirc..

It also depends on what you want the tires to do... Long life or good handling or Both?

A compromise between handling and tread life would be ideal. The commute to work is an 82 mile round trip, comprised primarily of Interstate driving. I've had good luck in the past with Dunlop, Yokohama, and Bridgestone tires. I've run them on sports cars, SUVs and trucks. Goodyear, not so good. Nice ride, but terrible tread life. I've been looking at the Toyo Versados, but haven't run across anyone who has them to get a real-world opinion. Never purchased Continentals either, but have heard both good and bad. I really like the RS-As that are on the car, but a little stiff. I must admit they are a far better wearing tire than I've had previously in the Goodyear line. I'm tempted to put the ones I have on the chrome rims, but haven't decided.

I wouldn't call them excellent in dry, they're fine for an All season, but by no means a performance tire.

OE Conti's on my GTI are done now @ 30k. I'm running them till winter, and then putting a winter tire on, and then Summer wheels/tire combo in the spring.
